I say 2.3 mil first week (might be a bit optimistic, but theres a lot of people who worship melee, although many of them have not bothered acquiring a wii yet due to the shortages... If there wasn't the wii shortage issue this number is quite feasible.) I do think they have had enough time to make enough copies of the game itself for NA though.

Hardware... who knows. Is it possible there has been some stockpiling for this?
