Guess I'm devil's advocate here. I think all these small, cheaper, more colorful retail releases aren't good for Nintendo's image. It's hard enough to get people to buy Wii U's without making it seem almost exclusively like a system dedicated to tiny kid-friendly games. We know better, but there are plenty of people that wouldn't be caught dead perusing that shelf at the store.

If you don´t like these games, don´t play them, you can take Bayonetta, Xenoblade, Zelda, Devil´s Third, Hyrule Warriors, Star Fox, etc if you don´t like this colorfull friendly games, but i don´t think they have to stop doing good "little" games like this, Captain Toad or Yoshi WW just because they doesn´t appeal to some users for being cute, they are good games, what a pitty if they don´t realease them just because of what the uninformed gamers would think about it.

errrr...........why not?

Yes because why not? Retail will helps its sales.

What? It isn't? I could have sworn I saw a listing on Amazon.

Yes, because I wouldn't buy it if it's digital only.

It is a boxed release. OP is just asking if it being retail is justified.

Damn.. My bad for not inferring that xD

OT: Yeah I don't see why not. If Captain Toad got one, I see no issue with Kirby getting one.

Apparently there is some resistance to the idea of a modest 2D platformer being a disc release in 2015.

The flood of 2D indie games have conditioned some gamers to believe the genre belongs only in $10 digital titles.

Fortunately that is bullshit and Nintendo doesn't subscribe to that school of thought. I do think that game prices should be more dynamic (like in Japan), but Nintendo also seems to be working towards that, pricing some of their games at $40 (like Kirby).

Overall, I think the complaint of "this game shouldn't be a retail game" really has no place where it is a valid complaint. You may say that a game is light on content for the price, but that is quite a different argument, seeded in retrospective thinking and evaluation of your personal opinion on the value of money (but at that point the argument would be about cost, not about retail vs digital). Even worse is the line of thinking that a genre doesn't deserve to be a retail game...

Please quote and bold the part where I said I didn't like those games.

The games existing in the first place isn't my point.  The point is putting them all on store shelves and potentially isolating certain demographics.  Taking what essentially should be download titles and giving them boxes makes the system look lame--like it doesn't have anything better to show us.
