I'm trying to think of a reason for why Tachikoma would make this up, she doesn't seem like a user that would make stuff like this up for attention... also there was this thing with the announcement for TLOU:R being included with the PS4 where they specified that it's going to be included with the 500 GB bundle, so that could be a sign of a new SKU with a larger harddrive, but still spring does seem early.

Spring can basically be anytime from March 21st to June 21st, meaning they could announce a new SKU and price @ E3 if they wanted.

Yeah could be, an E3 announcement for something like that would make sense.

New PS4 revision with much cheaper build cost + PlayStation Vue. Sony is going to make a major move to try and get this thing as mass market as possible. Why? They have to, Playstation is the only thing they have that is leading its market. Bravia, Xperia, Sony Pictures, Sony Music, everything else is in bad shape. They have to strike and make PS the defacto home entertainment box like iphone and galaxy are for smartphones. From there they can rebuild. If PS fails, Sony is in trouble.

In other words, it's nothing more than a guess. Got it.

I develop games for a living and my husband designs and manufactures officially licensed gaming peripherals,  (both verifiable,  feel free to ask a mod),  only reason there is no documentation to back up what I say is because without them,  it's "speculation"  and with them,  it's a breach of NDA,  and thus our jobs and potential legal turbulance.

And while I'd love to dump a pile of documents in your lap and wipe that smugness of yours,  its simply not worth the reprocussions.

If what you're saying is true, then I'm guessing we're going to see an announcement at E3.  Man, if XBO can't outsell the PS4 at $349, then it's all over if/when the PS4 drops to the same price.

Yeah but the blow can be harder if they wait until sales slow down and do a $299 price cut. It's clear even with XB1 $50 cheaper it still can't beat the PS4. Spring seems so random.

Why wait for sales to slow down to try and pick them back up when you can try to take already high sales and make them even higher?

Why would you want to drop price at any other time than the time when your heavy hitting games release? The games increase sales, the price cut increases them further. The price cut increases consoles sale, which in turn also increases software sales. maximizing the potential of your big exclusives and 3rd party partnerships makes a lot of sense. It's win/win.

It would also be a great move since the effects of this cut would be felt from now until the holidays and possibly beyond, because for every sale the PS4 can take from the XB1 can have a trickle down effect due to friends buying what friends buy. At no point is increased marketshare a bad thing, especially when you're already in the drivers seat and making profit on each unit.

More consoles sold = more peripherals sold = more games sold = better than their current state, even if their current state is very good.

EXACTLY.  I said something earlier in another thread.  You want to keep the momentum going, not wait for it to die out, then try to restart it weeks/months later with a pricecut.  The latter doesn't always work out the way you want it to.  Just look at the current state of the XBO.  MS foolishly let the price go back up to $399, thinking the holiday momentum would carry over.  Instead, sales died down greatly.  So much so that they tried to jumpstart sales by dropping the price back down to $349 about two weeks later.  Sure the cut improved its baseline, but the PS4 is still continuing to outsell it.  Continued momentum is also why Sony made sure to spread out its exclusives for the year.

She said by Spring, so it would be before E3

No specifics on how much it's dropping, though, but if the Spring cut is true, then maybe it will just be by $50.

Spring ends June 21st.  E3 runs June 16th-18th.

Haha, that would be the furthest stretch ever!  Besides, I know that, my birthday is on June 22.

In any event, I'd imagine Sony consider that point the Summer. When she's says Spring, I'm thinking March/April.

Lol, not really a stretch, as it is still officially Spring.  Also, I think it matters more what she considers Spring.

Lotsa people do that. And losta people work in video game retailing. Yet they don't have inside knowledge of Sony/MS/Nintendo's pricing plans. Perhaps you can't furnish actual proof of what you claim, but you can give more evidence of how it is you're a Sony insider than just "me and my hubby work in the gaming biz".

If there is a price cut coming in just a couple of months then it'll be a $50 cut. I don't see Sony going the whole $100 this soon. Probably a good strategy to cut $50 in April/May, and then have plenty of room to do all sorts of specials from Black Friday through to the end of the year. Officially cutting the price by $100 doesn't leave much room for specials and mostly making profit or breaking even on hardware.

Hmmmm. 1TB $399 and 500GB $350? I really don't think Sony should touch the price yet. Especially a 2 SKU nonsense.

Sony never do 50$ drop. If the ps4 drop price, it's 300, they will still get some money (not much...) and will capitalize on games/Ps+ subscribers/accesory/etc.
