It will be lucky to make it to 15 million, as of this moment. All ninty fans bought the console when Mario Kart came out and so that is why SSB didn't boost sales so much. It's a dead console and news on an upcoming ninty next gen console are just helping it drown faster.W

what upcoming console? did i miss something

There have been a bunch of rumors, here are some links:

http://www.kitguru.net/desktop-pc/console-desktop-pc/anton-shilov/nintendo-contracts-amd-to-power-next-generation-game-console/

Here is a quote from the article which shows that nintendo is working on a next generation system:

"Back in May Nintendo already confirmed that it had started development of its next-generation home console. In October it also transpired that the company would design system-on-chip for its forthcoming system in the U.S. According to a new media report, Nintendo contracted AMD to provide graphics processing technologies for the device."

Just like how Microsoft and Sony are building their next platforms.

Of course.

Nintendo isn't stupid, they won't kill a console less than 3 years after releasing it. SEGA killed all confidence in them when they killed the Saturn. You lose money and your fans with these moves. The Wii U is there to stay until end of 2017, at least.

I can't believe what I just read. You wanna make a bet? Actually more of a one-sided bet. If WiiU surpasses 15M by 31 dec 2015 I shall have 1 month sig control. :D

That's just crazy talk, man. I doubt that WiiU will ever have a 6m year.

I doubt it to. That's why it's a one-sided bet. I doubt it will, but he is certain it won't so no harm done if he takes that bet.

To spice up things I will give one month sig control if Wiiu never surpasses 15M.

2016 would be too early to release a new console,  Nintendo is not in an hurry (unlike the Gamecube which was ended earlier to not be late compared to PS3). Nintendo probably won't release a new console before end of 2017.

They will make money selling Wii U games, pushing the consoles installed base at over 20 millions.

That's seriously wishful thinking. How is Nintendo not in a hurry? They have one of the worst selling consoles in history. And you seriously think that the GCN would have lived longer if not for the PS3? Really? The GCN wasn't even selling at $99. They'll make money treading water on the Wii U until 2016, where they'll try to not lose money another 3 years in a row because of failing hardware.

Nah, there is always the possibility for the Wii U to completely break down after 2015. There is however absolutely no possibility for the Wii U to sell 6m in 2015.

You're on. We will take the adjusted numbers from the next update after January NPD 2016.

Though this is much too easy. I'm tempted to go even down to 14m but since you're so smug about it I won't.

You mean like how xbox one  now continues to outsell ps4 weekly in the usa. Anything is possible just like how ps4 losses ground to xbox, wii u could also gain ground too. The ps4 hype train is slowing down here in america so lets see what happens.

Wii U is not Xbox. Xbox sold very close to PS4 all year in US even outselling it a few times long before the holidays. And it is still not selling anywhere else. The X1's slight recovery in US is no miracle considering the circumstances. In fact, I predicted long ago a recovery for X1 in US.

Wii U isn't even selling at a cheaper price with high class quality exclusives. The only chance I see for Wii U reaching 15m in 2015 is a price drop to $100. And that is not even a real chance.

Gamecube made money. Iwata always thought the GC sold badly because it came too late compared to the PS2. Nintendo won't release a new console before the end of this generation.

Nintendo traditionally don't make money on hardware but on software. Wii was making money on both at an unreal pace, but it was an exception. Killing the Wii U, to start again from scratch would mean losing more money. They need to recoup their losses by selling software. The successor of the Wii U will release when the competition release or when software aren't selling and the company continues to lose money.

Silly to make such guesses. Nobody knows what's going to happen. Nintendo has turned things around many times and MK8 and Smash Bros has been a big help in boosting sales. Should stop making guesses and let Nintendo make their own goals to reach.

Smash Bros released at the end of this year. It will still benefit the Wii U for next year. Better library will help the console, as well as a likely price cut for next holidays and the release of high profile games like Zelda or Animal Crossing.

Smash bros released during the most financially advantageous time of the year, and barely did anything for it's holiday. I don't know why anyone thinks that Animal Crossing will do anything for the Wii U. Zelda is not Mario Kart or Smash Bros when it comes to sales, so that will do worst than either, and that will be the best the system will do next year. And you're overestimating how much the price cut will help. If a $100 price cut to the more successful XBO barely helped it, a $50 price cut to the Wii U won't fare much better.

Your definition of barely is laughable.

15 millions is not a big number in the absolute and 4 millions even less. A 150$ Wii U next holiday can beat this year sale quite easily I think.

The Wii U lost money. Iwata is the reason the Wii U lost money, so I don't put much stock to what he has to say.

Nintendo traditionally always make money on hardware. The 3DS and Wii U are the first ones where they have. Nintendo would make more money releasing a new successful console than they would keeping a failed on on life support for longer than needed. 2017 is longer than needed.

There is no way in hell the Wii U will release when when the PS5 and XB2 release. Nintendo aren't stupid enough to wait until the Wii U starts losing money again to release it's successor. It'll get 2 more years to recoup some losses and give them time to actually develop its successor, then they'll announce it at E3 2016 and release it Holiday 2016.

It'll have a 4 year life cycle. The OG XB had that. No one complained. The 360 became a huge success that dwarfed the XB. The same will happen with the Wii U's successor if Nintendo plays things smart.
