Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Confirms New Console, Evidently Powered by AMD

The "redefining video game" platform was directly refering to NNIDS and creating brand loyalty through that, rather than transitioning to the next gen with disconnected consumers.

I really wish people do their research in these forums

Uh... no it's not.  And in the slides you even directly linked, he even specifically mentions the next hardware.  Also, that's not even where the quote comes from, though it probably has ties to it.  They're not going to redefine anything without new hardware that is built around their transitioning ideas.

No. The "redefining video game platform" is about connecting consumers through NNIDS. Nothing more and nothing less.

"We wish to build on our existing connections with our consumers through NNIDs and continue to maintain them."

It has nothing to do with a unified handheld/home console

Finish your WiiU first or no dessert.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I am calling it, It will be a fusion tablet with the twice of Wii U capability or perhaps similar capability with Xbox One. It will able to connect to LED/LCD screens or play as you go, come with new controller and new Wii mote . Fully touch screens. It will come on 2018.

How can you possibly not realize that it is reffering to both? It's not disconnecting consumers either. What makes you thing that supporting the next console means immediately halting support for the Wii U? If the Wii U, like they've said, is the start of that architecture, then it's extremely easy to see that the homogenisation done on the next handheld and console will also include the Wii U. In the same way that the next handheld will downscale the next console's games, the Wii U will most likely still be able to play most of those new console games, but with downgrades. In other words, if you own a Wii U, you'd be in no rush to upgrade, and if you're Nintendo, you won't be losing money on those people not upgrading yet because they'll still be buying the new games. You know, just like with the newest iphones that Nintendo is basing this whole model on...

The Wii U selling like shit wouldn't be as much of a problem at all if the people on the Wii could still buy Mario Kart 8 on their Wiis. Get it? Unified playform? Huh?

People will be able to seamlessly transfer their games from the Wii U to it's successor at anytime. I'd be willing to bet anthing that the Wii U will get a major firmware update as soon as the thing is released so that the OS matches the new console in design and functionality. Most of those launch games will be available on the Wii U, but look better and have added functionality on it's successor. People who own a Wii U can wait a little before upgrading, but the majority of gamers who simply don't will have a reason to get the new thing. Not only will it be more powerful and have newer games, but it will have the entire Wii U library they missed. I'm thinking more and more that we won't see a new true 3D Mario until the next console, and that will be it's first true exclusive.

What are you talking about? You completely missed the point. I am referring to "redefining video game platform" definition Iwata discussed earlier this january. This definition is simply about connecting with consumers with NNID's. Which is proven by the link i shared.

Maskedbanfit2 is saying that the "redefining video game platform" definition is refering to a unified handheld/home console. Which is untrue, proven by the link i shared.

Lol at all these people who keep saying "No new Nintendo console/handheld before 2017-2018". I'm not sure on which planet you guys are living on, but Nintendo hardware sales are at historical lows. And it's only going to go DOWNWARDS from this point moving forward. How can Nintendo even afford to wait another 3 years on 2 systems that are bombing in the west currently? And yes, 3DS is doing very poorly in the west. It's barely going to end up reaching N64 numbers in the US (which is very bad for a Nintendo handheld, it's about HALF of what the WORST SELLING Nintendo handheld sold in the US) and it's doing about equally poorly in Europe for a Nintendo handheld. As for wiiU, I don't even need to explain why it's a bomb worldwide.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

They are obviously linked.  The unification will obviously be more than just a common HW architecture.  They already have a NNID system in place yet.  Their ultimate goal, which will "redefine" video game platforms, will be the linking of their handheld and console platform into one.  I think it's pretty clear.  You're not going to achieve any satisfactory results with current hardware.

No, you missed it. I know what you're saying. I'm saying that they are the same thing. It's reffering to both. The definition is about connecting with consumers with NNIDs instead of hardware. It goes hand in hand with a unified handheld/home console. They are unified by the redefined platorm that is NNID.

...Unless he's saying that they will be just one consoles like the rediculous "tablet console" idea that's been floating around. Then yeah, he's wrong.

If  game cube can survived in 6th gen era, why not with Wii U.  If they releasing a new hardware on 2016 it will be a normal console with just more powerful then PS4 and Xbox One, and they will competing with all 2 giants company that already sit comfortably on the market. They can release a fusion console and tablet but the graphic will be the same with Wii U , if they want to make a tablet more powerful then a Wii U,  the tablet will be to big to carry and consume a lot of battery.

So 2017 or 2018 is a perfect time for them to strike back with casual design system (Tablet ) but powerful enough to compete with both PS brand and Xbox brand on graphic department , so they can gain more support from third party publisher.
