They are obviously linked. The unification will obviously be more than just a common HW architecture. They already have a NNID system in place yet. Their ultimate goal, which will "redefine" video game platforms, will be the linking of their handheld and console platform into one. I think it's pretty clear. You're not going to achieve any satisfactory results with current hardware.
