Forums - Politics - President Obama chastises Sony over cancelling of 'The Interview'

Sony is a tech company and does not have the resources to defend against any kind of military attack be it physical warfare or cyber attacks. Given the circumstance I think they made the only reasonable choice for the time being - no ones life is worth losing over the release of a film. Its simply not worth it. Obama should be backing Sony, not disrespecting them for making the morally right decision. Pretty embarrassing to call him our leader right now

I never negated to answer to you... you that wanted to be ignored, so you decide what you want.

few civilian casualties from USA people, that is what which Obama cares or should. They didn't cared about civilian lifes in all other invasions, so I don't see why would they care on this case.

Uhnnnn I think terrorism is possible independent of allowance of Murica, but sure 9/11 type of cases really needs some colaboration on my opinion. But yes, I don't see any terrorist cell being able to retaliate enough for a war... but they can take enough lifes to make people panic and renegate their rights.

I just disagree on Obozo position... for me all life of good doers is sacred, be they civil, militar, from USA or NK. So if conflict can be warned it should. But Obozo chasting on Sony is quite hypocritical when he doesn't follow any of it. But then, that is exactly what left wing do. The old "accusate my oponent of what I do".

Like I said, If we can talk and respect each other I have no issue talking to you.

I think I see your point in the hypocrisy. However, I think that Obama is trying to highlight the importance of Freedom of Speech.

Here is something similar. Did you know that Canada and the US don't pay ransoms?

Sorry if you interpreted any of my posts as meant disrespect to you, wasn't the intention. Maybe you are reading them harsher than they were meant... we will strongly disagree on some things, like creationism (which we won't talk here =] ) and some things Sony x Nintendo, even more because you seem to think I don't like Ninty, but I really do, just preffer Sony a lot.

Well I do agree on Freedom of Speech... but on that he shouldn't bitch against Sony about it, but regret the unfortunate situation Sony was put and how inadimissible it's to have a country threat a company over Freedom of Speech... and again Obozo also use a gag law so he doesn't really cares about freedom of speech as he cares about spotlight. But that is another case. If I were Sony I would release it, but then risked being held liable on Public Opinion if anything happened and maybe have even worst things leaked (altough I doubt NK will stop leaking independent of what Sony do, and that is why I wouldn't ceade to blackmail, because they never stop).

Yes I know about it... if I was blackmailed I would at most pay to have enough time to erase the threat, but wouldn't let myself be held captive of it.

Why don't you go fight in the front lines in Iraq if that's something you believe in? Nothing like warhawks who are actually chickenhawks when it comes to participating themselves. Iraq probably was better off under Saddam Hussein than the gong show it is today.

Countries like Russia and North Korea are more bluster than substance, they talk a big game, but the US and their allies can cripple them overnight if they really wanted to. Look at the Russian rouble and the state of their economy now.

Please reads all my posts or at least know me better before coming fumming at me.

If I wanted to wage war on someone I would be there, not pressing buttoms. What I'm criticizing is Obozo big mouth, of calling Sony on something he doesn't do.

And if for you a war that you lose less soldiers than you kill civilians is right, then I'm sorry, I disagree... Iraq was totaly unecessary.

If you don't know I'm brazilian, and our country is a chicken on war, we avoid it at all costs... WW1 and 2 we just participated because of pressure from USA or Europe. We don't really bother with going at other countries, so I don't know how could I be on USA ranks to invade Iraq... but sure if Brazil was to be invaded Brazil I would probably pick on arms to defend it (even tough I don't think the government deserves any defense, and I want to move to USA).

Are you an alt by the way?

I think Sony was wavering on releasing this all along, getting movie chains to back kind of gave them an easy out. I don't really buy that every movie theater refused as well. There are plenty of independant theaters that still are saying they would show the movie, why not let them play it? Why is Paramount also backing off from letting other theaters that want to play Team America?

The problem is this sends a message to other countries like China and Russia and Iran that you can "win" on cyberterrorism, so while Sony and the movie theater chains may have saved their hides for now, they are setting a very dangerous precedent for everyone else.

But I don't think the President really "chastized" them, I think he actually had a good press conference that put North Korea in their place pretty good. What does it say about them that they are scared of a Seth Rogan movie (which drew laughter).

Well I won't entertrain supposition... but it's possible that sony was already wavering.

That is why Obozo should sided Sony and said that they wouldn't tolerate any threat to it's population over freedom of speech and would retaliate if such threats came to fruition... it isn't a company's obligation to send a message on this case, but a country leader... but when he avoids NK and Russia for decades he have no moral ground for it. He have only attacked easy to get places with pretty unilateral warfare, actually he is the coward one when bullying fly countries but then avoiding real conflict.

He was really agaisnt sony in part of his speech. Don't even see like he reviewed his speech. He didn't put NK anywhere... he just said their leader is a Bozo and deserves to be made fun, not how far he would go to defend his country freedom of speech. But yes it is ridiculous how much offense they took over it.

Shouldn't Obama be castigating the major theatre chains? They all bailed on the movie, not Sony. Sony only pulled the movie because no one was going to show it anyway.

I don't think Sony should take all the blame; there are the 5 major movie chains that forced their hand.

Obama responding to the situation way too late. Should have said something earlier. Did he let Sony know calling him was an option?

Please Watch/Share this video so it gets shown in Hollywood.

If they had released (which they still want to but no other company/threater will back them up, as said by the CEO) and something does happen, guess who would be blamed entirely?

They are in a lose-lose situation. This movie, if released in some other way, would probably make its money back and then some due to its infamy status now.

Off spotlight he would praise Sony for what they done.

That movie exists for the sole purpose of pissing North Korea off, and that's exactly what it did. Sony Pictures and the writers of the movie deserve everything they've gotten. If North Korea had the financials and know how to make and release world wide a movie about the assassination of Obama, North Korea would be a hole in the ground by now, and South Korea would be a small island nation off the coast of China. Frankly, I think North Korea deserves a medal for defusing the situation without war and saving the world from another god awful Seth Rogen movie.

Just my two cents..

Yes he should have spread the blame around.
