Forums - Gaming - I liked MGSV: Ground Zero so which MGS should I play?

If you're interested in MGS PP, then you should buy the HD collection. It has MGS 3 and Peace walker which both are more related to MGS PP than MGS 4. The snake in MGS 4 is a different one than MGS 3, peace walker an MGS PP.

Play in release order!!!!

Buy MGS1 from the PSN store or you could watch the cutscenes on youtube if a PS1 game is a bit outdated for u
Buy HD collection
Buy MGS4 used for like 5-10$ (its available digitally now on PSN as of last week for 19.99$)
Pre-order Phantom Pain

Done and enjoy

Btw how much do you know about the general story? like you know the Snake in 1,2 and 4 is a different person then the Snake in MGS3,Peace Walker, Ground Zeros and Phantom Pain?

Nope did not know that lol

Get the Legacy Collection and you will have all of them. Way better!

I recommend MGS4, but you can just grab them all in the Legacy Collection.

You should play all the main ones. Also Peacewalker if you can. Since you started with Ground Zeroes maybe you should play MGS 3 then Peacewalker then 1 > 2 > 4.

Chronology goes like this: MGS3 > Peace Walker > Ground Zeroes > Phantom Pain > The original 2 MG games (You can just read about those) > MGS1 > MGS2 > MGS4.

What about Metal Gear Portable Ops?

There is Big Boss, that was known as Naked Snake (MGS3, Peace Walker) or Punished Snake (Phantom Pain). He was kind of the "perfect soldier". So they decided to clone him, letting us with:

- Solid Snake: the Snake people normally talk about. He was the main character in MG, MG2, MGS1 and MGS4 and it's the hero of the IP.

- Liquid Snake: the evil twin, main villain in MGS1, MGS4

- Solidus Snake: another evil brother, main villain in MGS2.

MGS2 was the only game in the series that wasn't protagonized by a "Snake", with Raiden instead. I say was because in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Raiden is the protagonist again. I recommend that you play this game too.

Edit: Rising is the one that is more in the future of the fictional chronology:

Yeah what Torok said, basically the original snake from MGS3 gets cloned (this isnt really a spoiler) just what ever you do dont confuse the 2 or ull be completely lost

Big Boss (Naked Snake)

Solid Snake

I'm actualy new to this series aswell, i only started playing early this year. After seeing those amazing Phantom Pain trailers i had to see what this series was about (I now watch those PP trailers every week and have all the trailer songs on my phone)
