Forums - Nintendo - Captain Toad features lighting enhancements to the SM3DW graphics engine!

I really had thought more people noticed this, but apparently not...

Fortunately, I took pics and posted them to Twitter to highlight a few areas showing it off!

I didn't think they'd get more out of that SM3DW engine, but they did, and I'm glad to see Nintendo's HD development skills are progressing nicely!

Very interesting stuff, sir. I wish the next 3D Mario game uses this eninge, I love every part of it. It would be nice if Nintendo put another form of AA to it, and other considerable improvements as well.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

nicely done.... thanks

Switch!!!

Already saw it in your review.

Dang, that's awesome.

From those pics it looks like they keep the original, possibly pre rendered, shadows and add the real time shadows.

However, it looks like the light source for the new shadows come from a different angle. So, for example, the pipe toad's travelling in has a shadow cast to the bottom right. The shadow of toad himself is not only much bigger than the shadow of the pipe but also cast towards the bottom left.

I noticed it right away. More people need to give the game a chance. It's a LOT of fun and it's honestly in the running for the most gorgeous game on Wii U currently, imo. Definitely a noticeable step up from 3D World, especially in the lighting, but also in some of the textures, which you can see in detail thanks to the camera zoom in Captain Toad.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

Nintendo should make more games by re-using this engine. However, I'm not so sure the next 3D Mario game should be one of those games. Unless it's possible to combine the engine with game mechanics similar to Super Mario Galaxy. I seriously think Nintendo's next step for Mario should be a sequal to Super Mario Galaxy called Super Mario Universe, based on an enhanced version of the Galaxy-engine. Also I wouldn't mind seeing enhanced versions of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 as part of promotion for Super Mario U-niverse.
Releasing these games in 2015 would be perfect considering it's the 30th anniversary of the Super Mario franchise.

Imagine;

Q1/Q2 2015: Mario Maker
Q3 2015: Super Mario Galaxies - HD Compilation
Q4 2015: Super Mario U-niverse

of course with full Amiibo support.

This would be an amazing way to celebrate Mario!

I will buy it for sure, but only in january.

Yeah.. It's pretty great what Ninty managed to do with Captain Toad!
