Forums - General Discussion - John Mccain Won the Republican Nomination. Your thoughts?

It means I am voting 3rd party or for Obama. I have never voted for a Democrat before and hopefully a 3rd party person will step up this time so I don't have to...

Either way, I'd never vote for McCain. I only liked him because I thought he was against torture but it turns out he is not against torture so I disagree with him on almost every issue.

Obama may do a lot of bad to the nation, but certainly less than Bush did.

Now its about damn time! Way to go McCain. Anyway, the Dem turnout is based on sad pretense due to Bush admin. What Dem. voters dont realize is that they are supporting progressives. Do some research on that and its link to early fascism in the 20th century not that I's saying Hillary or Obama are Hitlers but their doctrine is based on big gov't, state-based economic policy, etc.

Have a good night!

Uhm.. I think you should learn a bit more about history. Mussolini, Hitler and Franco were all right-wing dictators and the Bolsheviks were left-wing. Totalitarianism can come from either side.

Blood alone moves the wheels of history.

"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

I think pleanty of Dem's know that we are supporting progressives. That's why I support them. If you want to bring up facism
Fascism is an authoritarian political ideology (generally tied to a mass movement) that considers the individual subordinate to the interests of the state, party or society as a whole. Fascists seek to forge a type of national unity, usually based on (but not limited to) ethnic, cultural, racial, religious attributes. Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: patriotism, nationalism, statism, militarism, totalitarianism, anti-communism, corporatism, populism, collectivism, autocracy and opposition to political and economic liberalism
So this current administration has been far more fascist than anything that the two Dems are offering. Also we could use some more government regulation and foresight to keep corporations in check and to build or rebuild our crumbling infrastructure.

Hi! I know what you're talking about. We have a lot of liberal fascism tendencies here in Sweden, because it's a very socialist country compared to other Western countries. I think it's sad that the next US president probably will be a so called "progressive". --- Slimebeast (a VG user from Sweden)

sorry for the double ;)

Obama will win--practically guaranteed. And he'll be the best thing to happen to America this decade.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Wow @halogamer1989 - comparing progressive, liberal, democratic politicians to facicsts...

"Liberal fascism" - hilarious!

Personally, I have no doubt that the next US president will be Democratic. I would be surprised if McCain wins, but who knows.

Although I think Obama will make it in the end (he's much more a symbol for change than Clinton), I always wonder - from my distant European view - where all the Clinton hate comes from. Is it because people don't like her political ideas, because she's a Clinton or because she's a woman? I tend more and more to the latter one.

Back to ACTUAL political stances by the candidates.

McCain's win says to me that the hard right is the biggest loser. They hate McCain for being so moderate. They even ignored what Guliani did rather than support McCain.

If they couldn't stop him this time, it shows that bush did more damage to the hard right than any "liberal media" news could.

I don't think you understand the meaning of the word "fascism." Fascism is a RIGHT-WING ideology. It is not progressive!!

From Wikipedia:

Fascism is an authoritarian political ideology (generally tied to a mass movement) that considers the individual subordinate to the interests of the state, party or society as a whole. Fascists seek to forge a type of national unity, usually based on (but not limited to) ethnic, cultural, racial, religious attributes. Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: patriotism, nationalism, statism, militarism, totalitarianism, anti-communism, corporatism, populism, collectivism, autocracy and opposition to political and economic liberalism.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]

Don't like Wikipedia? Here's the entry on fascism from the American Heritage Dictionary of Cultural Literacy:

A system of government that flourished in Europe from the 1920s to the end of World War II. Germany under Adolf Hitler, Italy under Mussolini, and Spain under Franco were all fascist states. As a rule, fascist governments are dominated by a dictator, who usually possesses a magnetic personality, wears a showy uniform, and rallies his followers by mass parades; appeals to strident nationalism; and promotes suspicion or hatred of both foreigners and “impure” people within his own nation, such as the Jews in Germany. Although both communism and fascism are forms of totalitarianism, fascism does not demand state ownership of the means of production, nor is fascism committed to the achievement of economic equality. In theory, communism opposes the identification of government with a single charismatic leader (the “cult of personality”), which is the cornerstone of fascism. Whereas communists are considered left-wing, fascists are usually described as right-wing.

Your friend is from Sweden and may not be familiar with the English language. You're apparently an American. What's your excuse?

It's fine and well if you don't like Obama or Clinton and don't agree with their platforms.. but you don't really get to make up new definitions for English words. So.. Tell me, Are you trying to make up your own definitions or do you simply not know what you're talking about?
