Yeah... I have that problem with like 90% of the games I buy... Just don't have the time these days and if the game isn't grabbing my attention it gets put on the back burner... Most likely never to be played again...

I feel your pain, that's been a huge issue for me for me when it comes to games. My backlog is just growing and growing too, so it makes it even tougher to stay focused on just one game. -_-

The sad part is that I like a lot of these games as well, so its not like playing them feels like a chore. Definitely something I need to work on.

I can get that trouble every now and then. Certain series are sticklers for me. I like Atelier series, but I usually stop halfway through. Up until recently, I stopped playing a bunch of Tales games before completion. I've played ever Zelda since OoT and I haven't been able to finish a single one outside of OoT (and even then I had some help).

To some extent. I end up starting too many games at same time. Back in days i used to play one single player game at a time. Multiplayer ones are okay as you can just jump in and out anytime. Also end up buying more games that i have time or heck desire to play. 

Cut down on my purchases this year by 50% but also finished half as many games as last year.  Have enough games backlogged now to last me for couple of years and that's assuming half of them i won't like enough to bother with. Planning to just buy 5-6 games next year. Let's see how that goes. 

It depends on the game and if it resonates with me. There are a lot of games I think I'll really like, play and like them for a few hours, then just stop coming back. Most recently it happened with Bayonetta 2.

I don't even know what makes games click with me, it's really odd. I logged 700 hours on Call of Duty 4 multiplayer and Civilization V. I've logged thousands of hours on Pokemon games going back to Pokemon Red. I've played over 20 hours, and counting, of the Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. Probably nearly 100 hours on Skyrim. I've logged hundreds of hours into Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, A Link Between Worlds but can't find it in me to finish Wind Waker. I've beaten the first 3 DKC games and continue to return to them periodically, but haven't returned to Retro's two since beating them... just really odd.

OP try smaller but more meaningful experiences, its in a case like this when i really would recommend diving into the world of indies, it will save you a ton of cash aswell

Oh yes, almost forgot (or removed this): besides complex games, where I feel lost if I stop playing them for any reason and I resume playing them after too much times, in complex games where choices matter and influence plot, quests or even just the moral life of my character and NPCs important for him/her, I feel often blocked when I have to make such choices, even more if it's a game where you can't tell immediately what will be the consequences even of apparently harmless or secondary choices (for example in Fallout 2 I did what I could to avoid the bad consequences of a choice for Gecko City, but I couldn't avoid them and I felt sorry when after beating the game it told me the aftermath).

Same. I had to make a list of the games I've yet to beat and I posted it next to my tv. Already told myself I wouldn't buy any new games until I've beaten the majority of them.

Thankfully there are no new releases I'm dying to purchase atm.

Man, I always have 5-10 games waiting for my attention at any given time. And that's without the games I own but haven't started yet. There's only a few games I can rush through in one weekend, most games take quite some time for me to beat. I like to vary myself; after playing platformers for some time I might feel the urge to play some strategy games, and those games take up a lot of my time...

But yeah, it comes to a certain point when it only gets frustrating having so many games left to finish
