It's not underrated, it's overhated. How does it play anyway? I'm not a fan of Gran Turismo, what's the difference between a Racing Sim and a Arcade Racer?

There are 5 classes in DC. With hot hatch and sports you can basically get away with hardly any braking, or not braking until you're in the corner. While in GT that will always put you in the wall.

The higher classes in DC behave more sim like. With Super and Hyper class you definitely have to brake before the corner, maintain grip by manipulating the throttle and be careful not to spin out when exiting the corner. You also have to watch out when going over hills, you lose grip just like in GT, as well as feel the weight of the car shifting realistically. Except that you still have more grip in general and faster acceleration, so it all happens at twice the speed it would happen in GT. You need to think a lot quicker to get a flawless run.

The rain makes it all even more challenging. Hyper class on wet tracks requires full attention. You can still maintain plenty of speed (I drop about 6 seconds on my fastest time in a 2:30 run) but have to work a lot harder to stay on the track. In a sim you have to slow down to a crawl in that kind of rain. Lap times in GT drop by 30% or more in heavy rain.

So basically you get a bit of the sim feeling at much higher speeds, and you don't spin out as soon as one wheel hits a curb or the grass.

Sims also offer car upgrades, tuning the suspension, wheel setup etc. Driveclub does not. Which makes challenge mode more fun for me. Each challenge is locked to a specific car. It's your driving skill and knowledge of the track that determine how well you will do. In that sense it's a throwback to the classic arcade racer.

Have you played DriveClub.

Marvellous powers of deduction :)

I'm not saying Driveclub should have been an open world game. However, that might have been a good move considering Sony already has a track racer.

Here's the thing, Driveclub wanted to fall between arcade racer and sim. But its not a particularly fun arcade racer and it lacks the depth people want from racers today. NFS and The Crew do a much better job and filling the arcade racer gap.

Personally I think the best direction for Driveclub would have been open world and feel more like a sim racer. Hence, I'm saying Sony should have made their own Forza Horizon.

Lol you clearly did not play Driveclub, not that I didn't already doubt it, but now you proved it. Driveclub worse than NFS and The Crew? Maybe you should not come on a PS-exclusive related topic when you have no idea how it plays.

You aren't the first Sony fan to presume I haven't played Driveclub. I actually have.

Did I say Driveclub is worse than those games? No. I said they do a better job at filling the arcade racer gap.

Driveclub is more like a mediocre sim racer than arcade racer. I'm not saying its bad, just average. The Sony audience loves racers but they don't have anything great yet.

Actually, the online portion of the game worked fine when most critics were playing it. It got punished for other reasons.

The PS4 is a lacking notable racing games so people will buy Driveclub. But maybe an Arcade racer wasn't a good idea.

Dude...you know GT is coming. The last GT came out right before the PS4 came out. Give it time. Drive Club isnt the definitive racer.

I didn't claim Driveclub was the definitive racer for PS4. Its just arguably the best it has right now.

How do they fill the track based arcade racer gap exactly?
The last track based NFS was the run, you don't seriosuly believe that competes with DC?

I've played most track based and open world racers. I prefer the racing in track based games while open world is fun for exploring and doing stunt challenges. DC is definitely the best track based racer since PGR.

So a game with a decent metascore is underrated. Okay.

Funny thing is the reviews I've seen mostly complain about the AI, driver penalties, and rubberbanding.

The metascore is average for a VERY good racing game. There are problems with AI, but that and the other few problems have no weight against its positive qualities. It deserves an 85+ easily.

85+ seems like a tall order in 8th generation scores... Just being completely honest there. It could be a few points higher though, but its close to the score I think it deserves.

When did you play it exactly, and how much of it did you play? It seems you playede it close to launch and even then, the gameplay was pretty good. Now however, its an incredible game, not an average one. I would call NFS: Rivals average, and The Crew is pathetic. They are not at all better at "filling the gap" if that gap even exists anymore because Driveclub has already erased that gap.

Driveclub is nothing like a sim racer at all, so I don't get that comparison either.

I second the thread title it is my most played title of the year the weather and photomode updates completed the game.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
