They shouldn't discontinue them completely if there is still demand. They just need to produce them in limited quantities.

This x100. Nintendo proper in Japan is badly out of touch with Western audiences, which is the root of most of the Wii U's problems. |
Boom and boom. This has been driving me crazy ever since I purchased my Wii U. I don't remember feeling like a minority as an American Nintendo fan during the lifespan of the GCN, or even the first half of the Wii era. It seems that ever since the home console market began to shrink in Japan, they've be home almost isolationist in their creatovory and decision making. If the efforts they're making to recapture the home-market please you, then you're in luck. If they don't, Nintendo doesn't seem terribly concerned. It's like we're an extreme afterthought despite being their largest audience.

discontinuing them a month after release, and right before the holidays kick in sounds like the dumbest, most retarded idea ever. |
maybe or maybe not....
trust me teh next wave will have many more people buying it and hoping that a few more will be discountinued...
Mass market don't buy Marth or Wii fit trainer but mario/link/zelda/peach and those will never be not available.
Creating high demand and have people talking about it is a good thing for Nintendo....
We all want those 3 because are now rare to find.

but if youre selling limited stock in the first place it doesnt make any difference, if you make and sell 20,000 in ten days or one, its still the entire allocation sold.
and theyre pulling stock that "doesnt sell well", rather than making the stuff actually in demand limited.
its stupid, it doesnt attract high demand at all, it just attracts scalpers, which drive up the cost and make people LESS likely to buy and use them.
Has there been any actual confirmation that specifically these 3 are being discontinued or is this all just speculation based off a Twitter account of some irrelevant unrelated company.
this is why I love Nintendo.
They don't flood the maket and the second hand market retains value.
Look at N64/Gamecube vs say ps1 and ps2 games (well in AUS anyway).
$$$$$ vs $$ on average
If Nintendo was still interested in money, the Wii-U would have a 3DS (2DS) adapter now, like the GBA adapter for the GameCube (Pokemon Ruby was so epic on the big (small)) screen.
Thanks jlmurph!

Speculation.
Here's a new quote from NoA:
“Some amiibo were very popular at launch, and it is possible that some amiibo in the United States, Canada and Latin America may not be available right now due to high demand and our efforts to manage shelf space during the launch period. Certain sold-out amiibo may return to these markets at a later stage. We are continually aiming to always have a regular supply of amiibo in the marketplace and there are many waves of amiibo to come.”
It's launch period and people are being played. I expect pre-orders for wave 3 and onwards to be much higher.
