Usage of win8/8.1 surges after the announcement of Win10?
Let me tell you why, there's stores across the world stocking PC's and laptops that come preinstalled with OEM windows 8/8.1, and right now , windows 10 poses a threat to their stock, the average customer when offered the choice between a laptop running windows 8/8.1 in one store, and the SAME laptop, running windows 10 in another, the windows 10 laptop will get the sale.

And so, they are pushing lower deals on current stock to thin out the stock levels in anticipation of new stock installed with windows 10.
Happened with vista, happened with win7, happening now with win8.

Or maybe they're finally confident enought to release Windows 1.0, Windows One, finally out of beta. They were really only up to Win 0.81 so far. Actually Windows 8 is only version 6.3 internally.

Blame Windows 95, left a bad taste.
