i dont think sales or profit matter so much for nintendo. they get a realy good an loved franchise for cheap and dont even have to make it themself, i think we could see another bayo or a spinoff if the game makes back the developeing costs.

Probably not although granted that Nintendo did pay for most of it so from a platinum's point of view, it did fine so if some other publisher is willing to take a crack at it, then maybe

I'm pretty sure that's what OP is asking: will Nintendo fund a 3rd?
It's certainly possible. I really don't think Nintendo was expecting to totally bank on "Bayonetta 2". Having quality M-rated titles on the Wii U seems to be their aim with titles like Bayo 1&2, as well as "Devil's Third". I think the determining factor will be how well "Bayonetta 2" fares in the GOTY selections. By all rights, it's a shoe-in. Realistically, though...

I don't think that Nintendo is going to make a new Bayonetta. Bayonetta 2 sales are horrible.
This one is quite tricky.
Nintendo have so many IPs that could potentialy be a million seller, like EarthBound, Kid Icarus, Animal Crossing, Fzero, waiting for some funding.
Maybe they ask for example Platinum to develop an Metroid/Star Fox, and in exchange they fund Bayonetta 3 or other title they want to.

Source?
I'd love to see a third game. Development costs presumably wouldn't be high, but I don't know if 500k would be enough for Nintendo stump up the cash for it. And if they are cultivating a close relationship with Platinum, why not get them working on a Nintendo IP that would presumably result in better returns for their investment? Neither Wonderful 101 or Bayonetta 2 will have sold well. How well would Wonderful 101 have sold if it was an all-star Nintendo game, as originally pitched by Platinum?

in the interview, hitoshi yamaguchi, who is the supervisor/manager of nintendo spd group no. 2 (the group that mostly works with second parties like intelligent systems, and is responsible for starfy, warioware, fire emblem, advance wars, codename steam, etc., with some development assistance for xenoblade and wonderful 101), suggests that they began work on bayonetta 2 because the assets were already there, but that there is a completely new project platinum is working on alongside bayonetta 2..
It depends on how much the game sells given Wii U's userbase and specially if it can have nice legs (no pun intended!).

I wonder how much Nintendo had to pay for Bayo 2, i dont think it would have been that much. The game was about to be canned, nobody else was interested so no bidding war took place and i could see Nintendo setting a sensible budget on dev costs purely because of the way they operate. Maybe sales of 500k plus could be enough?
Is Nintendo fine with funding a game that will probably lose money? That's the question in a nutshell, really. How important is it that they have an M-rated franchise at this point? Have things changed from the start of the generation, when they still thought they could win over gamers on other systems?
It might even come down to how cheap of a quote Platinum gives them on a budget plan for Bayonetta 3. If they heavily lean on reusing assets, how much money would that save? Nintendo is very pragmatic, no matter what people say about them doing it for the love of the game or whatever. I think Platinum would have to submit a very favorable budget plan.
