There is absolutely nothing Microsoft could buy, that would ensure them first place, other than actually buying Sony.

Hell GT was the best selling game on the PS1, not FF7. Does anyone around here actually fact check anything they say? |
i remember the ps launch and the massiv shift the ff7 ads gave. if ff had stayed on nintendo consoles, sony would never had won that gen.
the other question is who would want to lock 70% of his potential profits with this franchise? Microsfot would need to buy the whole publisher.
I also really doubt the publisher would like that, they would use the money and make just the same kind of game and gameplay with different name and release it on the other platform.
This whole thread is pretty stupid, MS buying game studios mostly lead to its demise eg. Rare Ltd., Ensemble Studios, Lionhead Studios etc. But making their own studios are much more reasonable for all. developers and customers and MS themselves. MS still need more money on making new game studios, its working well for MS so far they just need invest more in to them.

What is funny about it?
Idk, Fallout would be a big third party game to get exclusivity to. Not going to help them win, as no one exclusive will hit 8 million for at least a year probably more.
GTA doesn't need to be yearly. Buy that out, and within a single game release they'll get their investment back and enough beyond that to make the entire generation profitable on that title alone. Two titles and no one would be able to dispute the profitability of the Xbox brand ever again.

Minecraft is the biggest selling franchise, but lack of selling impact of the main audience in mainstream gaming business, i doubt Microsoft able to buy more ip in there current state (their trust form the investor ), even if they have the money, look at 360 era they gone crazy buying all exclusive but in the end finishing on last, and now they even screw buying useless Ip for mainstream gamer.
