Forums - Gaming - Realistically, what is the biggest franchise that Microsoft can buy out that would give them first place in console sales?

Microsoft already has three big blockbuster franchises. Halo, Gears of War and now Minecraft. However, I don't think this will be enough for Microsoft to be first place. What franchise could achieve this? I think overall, only COD will be able to do this. Maybe GTA, but that isn't a yearly title.

Nothing. Period.

One game does not make a console #1

What about Wii Sports, wasn't it that 4/5 of the 100 million wii owners also had Wii Sports?

xbox arrived towards the end of the ps2 generation. by that time ps2 had a huge lead. theres no  way any consoles , could  reach that amount in one year or so. so not really a fair comparison

The first Xbox was launched in November 2001 in USA and March 2002 in PAL regions, one year later than the PS2 in USA (Oct. 2000) and less than 18 months later in Europe/Australia (Nov. 2000). That is by no means "towards the end of the generation".

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I would say the Star Wars franchise of games. Battlefront 3 is going to be a system seller and that is only of the 3-4 games that EA is planning. So if they can get all Star Wars games exclusive to Xbox I would say that would be big. Anybody disagree?

Well, still don't know which one they can buy, but it seems the answer definitely isn't Street Fighter...

Halo says hi...

However I think it's going to a number of games. COD would have a massive impact, along with games like GTA or straight just buying out EA.

Oh lord, Halo has made nothing to number 1 and never will.

GTA?

nah   maybe Fifa

Legend of Zelda / Metroid, they would not even need Mario.

NNID: MagicalLight

FC: 4124 - 5888 - 4804

They would need to buy Sony or the PS division.

GTA doesn't need to be yearly. Buy that out, and within a single game release they'll get their investment back and enough beyond that to make the entire generation profitable on that title alone. Two titles and no one would be able to dispute the profitability of the Xbox brand ever again.

Yeah, sure. Because Rockstar would totally sell GTA franchise for the price of one iteration's profit.

I think they would. The company could be bought out for less, if it were for sale. I mean they bought Mojang for a couple of billion, when it's produced a hell of a lot more profit than that with Minecraft.

Minecraft made less than a billion.
