1. If someone wants a cheap new console they should just get the PS3 or 360. Cheaper than the Wii U, about the same powerwise and with a tonne more games...

2. How many Wii U games even have online multiplayer? So kind of a moot point.

3. Couldn't be more wrong.

4. Local co-op, yep Wii U is better, for now. Competitive play? PS4/Xbox One win and it isn't even close...

5. Doesn't matter to anyone that doesn't have any old Wii games. Besides that... if they really wanted to play their Wii games couldn't they, ya know, play their Wii?

6. So are PS4 and Xbox One, perhaps even more so than the Wii U.

1. not even close powerwise.

2. you're just downplaying.

3. you're seriously denying that wii u has the most and best exclusives?

4. excuse me? as far as I know, competitive play is the same everywhere.

5. actually, it matters a lot to people who don't own wii games, because they can buy and play them without buying a wii. to previous wii owners, it's just convenient.

6. just no. maybe there's a few, but ps4 and x1 generally don't have games that can be enjoyed with your families.

Doubtful and baseless claim, they aren't gonna pull a vita. They would need a replacement for them to stop supporting a whole new hardware. They might only support the console for 4-5 years however, but very unlikely about it being 3.

Sony didn't pull Vita, but they aren't really supporting it anymore either. Just like PS360 won't get pulled for now but support is fainting.

You confused me with this. On to the second part, Nintendo is still putting support behind the Wii U, and it will past 3 years (End of next year). Which you said they could pull support that time. I highly and extremly doubt they would. Not when the fanbase still has purchasing power. You could make an argument past 4th year, but even the gamecube had support past the 4th year.

Looking at the early data Wii-U did about half in November in the U.S. of what Gamecube did in November of 2003. So even Gamecube is no comparison at this point. I'm sorry but every games announced for Wii-U will likely launch in 2015(maybe Zelda early 2016) and with Wii-U dropping back to 30k-40k a week most of the year i don't think even Nintendo wants to invest in it anymore. SSB released on 3DS for a reason, Wii-U install base is just way to small.

1) So PS360 are new consoles? Nice.

I can see them last as long as Wii-U though.

Denial... PS3 could be discontinued in 2015 which is likely with PlayStation 4's sales, a lot of remasters from last gen and PlayStation Now offering PlayStation 3 gamees... Xbox 360 will be discontinued in 2016... 2015 is the last year for supporting HD twins from Ubisoft...

With the way it's selling now Nintendo could cut software support for it at the end of next year.

*facepalm* Is Nintendo Sega? Nope and it won't happen... Wii U at earliest would be discontinued in late 2017...

And no other developer is really supporting it in a big way.

Its up to developers competence to support a console...

Did you knew that best selling Tales series game was on Gamecube?!

So what's really the definition of new?

Seriously?...We learned that in kindergarden... >_>

Even if you're not serious, you should not have wrote that, pure brain fart... rofl

Maybe you should read the other posts again. He said that Wii-U is a new system and PS360 aren't. Well all of them can be bought new, and yes Wii-U is newer to the market but if it lasts about the same what does that really say? And spec wise it's closer to PS360 than it is the XOne and PS4.

With the Wii-U selling as it does now i don't see Nintendo announce many big new games for it, if any. And all that has been announced will probably be available by the end of next year. Even if it's supported a little longer it will be nothing compared to the support ps4 and XOne will get, wich will last for many more years.

So again what does it say that the system is from the same generation, if it's already running out of steam while the competition hasn't even warmed up yet.

One day, everyone will understand that there's no one-size-fits-all game platform, that people have different tastes that factor into their preferences, and that different taste from yours is not bad taste.

1) You know what else is going for $399 on the ps4? Other bundles that also give a better value than the wiiU. Not to mention, the increased hard drive size alone is almost enough to justify the increase in price, especially in the xbox one's case. Then throw in the fact that it's essentially a last gen console, my point is proven even more (seriously, look at the specs, they would have made an OKAY gaming PC 4 years ago).
2) Yes, there's technically a pay wall on the ps4 and xbox one, but can we mention the fact the pay wall on both systems gives you access to crap that's not available at all on the wiiu, such as a network that actually works.
3) Best exclusives is subjective, too many playformers IMO.
4) And I can't do COOP with the ps4 or xbox one? I have multiple times.
5) all one of them.
6) So can any of the other systems be.
Very stupid article, and it looks like it's grasping at straws.

these reasons have been known for quite a while but gamers aren't buying it. Apparently there are more reasons to not buy it and choose the competition

One reason to buy the other two.
Third party games.

And thats the only reason you really need.

Well, it's easily the best 8th gen console at the moment, so yea...I agree.

1. If someone wants a cheap new console they should just get the PS3 or 360.

8-9 year old consoles that are discontinued in a year or two...

Cheaper than the Wii U,

Regular Xbox 360's and PlayStation 3's regular price is 250$ and you need subcription for online on 360 which is 60$ a year so for full fuctionality as Wii U you need 310$ day one with another year it is at 370$... 360 not cheaper confirmed...

Also the article is about 8th generation consoles and not 7th... Did you even read the article properly or just titles of each point?

about the same powerwise

Incorrect, either you are misinformed, uninformed or you are intentionally lying...

Xbox 360 is about same powerwise to PlayStation 3 also Wii U's games speak for themself...

LittleBigPlanet Karting 720P 30FPS

Mario Kart 8 720P 60FPS

MK8 has way more lightning sources, polygons, effects, higher resolution textures, etc at double framerate...

PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale 4 fighters 720P 60FPS

Super Smash Bros for the Wii U 8 fighters 1080P 60FPS

SSBU proves that Wii U is capable of playing PASBR at 1080P 60FPS with higher quality assets...

and with a tonne more games...

How many are exclusive for its platform and not available anywhere else?

Wii U also is capable of playing Wii games...

2. How many Wii U games even have online multiplayer?

Atleast 25+ games have online on Wii U also there are still Wii games with online working...

So kind of a moot point.

Incorrect, either you are misinformed, uninformed or you are intentionally lying...

You are ignoring that DS, Wii and 3DS library has games with online multiplayer... Wii U ain't any different.

3. Couldn't be more wrong.

Either you are misinformed, uninformed or you are intentionally lying to yourself...

4. Local co-op, yep Wii U is better, for now.

For now? It will stay and Wii U is technically capable 20+ users at the same time with variety of control options...

It can be even better with second gamepad... Imagine playing a local game without seeing each others actions...

Competitive play? PS4/Xbox One win and it isn't even close...

Stop with confirmation bias... Isn't even close? Your denial in full force...

SSB community is very competitive, look at Melee or Tatsunoko VS Capcom Ultimate All Stars...

SSBU won't be different and MK series is also competitive... COD and Tekken players are no less competitive on Nintendo than other platform... Bayonetta 2 is another game with good mechanics for competitive play online >only<... Devil's Third and Splatoon will add to Wii U's library...

What is your meaning of competitive play? Must be on non-Nintendo consoles and be mature only?

5. Doesn't matter to anyone that doesn't have any old Wii games.

You can't simplify what that or that person you think wants... Thats narrow minded.

There are people that will use that feature even when they didn't own the Wii.

It does not matter to some people of like you, but it matters to some people too and there are people that will use it because its just capable of that... Some people will use homebrew to play Gamecube games on it because its hardware can do that...

Besides that... if they really wanted to play their Wii games couldn't they, ya know, play their Wii?

They can do that yet why not on Wii U that has HDMI and properly upscales Wii games on your HD or Full HD TV, play sequels that played on Wii in HD with some in Full HD.... Their Wii by now could be also dead if they bought it launch...

But wasn't one of main selling point of PS2 and first models of PS3? Also for GBC,GBA, NDS, Wii and 3DS?

So all of sudden does not matter?  Oh boy... I guess you haven't noticed huge disapointment at E3 2013... Or outrage when PS3's PS2 BC was removed...

Except if they can't afford one...

6. So are PS4 and Xbox One, perhaps even more so than the Wii U.

Nope... Saying that is denial/delusion in anyones book... Nintendo has IP's that can rival Disney. MS and Sony don't have anything of that caliber...

Surprising, for a Forbes freelance article it seems pretty fair.

Not when you consider the author. Erik Kain is easily the best games journalist out there.
