Forums - Nintendo - Zelda U Tries to “Imitate the Real World", Looks More Amazing than what was shown at E3

I'm excited and all, but this seems like a really strange way to be describing the look of the game. They're trying to make it look like the real world so they gave it an anime art style? Huh? I'm not getting that at all. Why wouldn't they say they're going for a stylized visual? Anime+realistic don't mix at all.

"Look" and "Imitate" are not the same words. Imitate typically refers to actions/events/behavior. Look describes the appearance of things.

Is this where nintendo fans suddenly are in favor of realism and immitating reality now, contradicting decades worth of opinions

Again. Art style and immitating reality are two different things entirely.

Is this where you notice there's actually a multitude of Nintendo fans with different opinions out there?

There is? News to me.

Nice! Good thing there is gonna be a anime inspired Open World Sandbox!

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

So it will be realistic??? It will be good to see some people who say realism is unispiring and art style is more important than tech side. Although the anime part seems contraditory, but some anime try a more real feeling.

I think he is trying to say they are going for a middle ground.  Looking at the vid from E3, there are lots of realistic elements like the sky, land forms, most of the folliage, and the general proprotions of characters.  But on the other hand, it's also stylized in an anime-esque way, some elements in a minor sense (mountains and folliage), others in a greater sense (character models).  And of course it makes selective use of cel shading.

Or it was just a bad translation.

Or that, if you want to be a buzzkill :P

Holding out hope that we'll see new footage of this game on Friday at The Game Awards!!!!

I don't care what it looks like, as long as it's better than Skyward Sword.

Hoping for at least Twilight Princess level if not God tier, Ocarina through to Wind Waker level.

Could live with TP level, not SS. That game was just garbage.

But curiously some were in this thread saying the opposite of what they claimed in others. Won't name to avoid unecessary bans.

But a mix between realistic background and animated chars is cool and some movies used it with success.
