Because VGC is sold to consumer. Sold from retailer to consumer. NOT shipped to retailer. That's why when Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo announce shipped figures they are higher than VGCs figures, and if they aren't then VGC adjusts the figures down accordingly.

Yes it is impossible to track every sale, that is why they track what they can and then extrapolate that to fit the market size. It is all explained here http://www.vgchartz.com/methodology.php

Mind explaining how they keep in contact with every retailer across US and Canada to tally every console and video game sold? You know this is virtually impossible right? My guess is they have insiders at the companies that give them more accurate numbers how how much was shipped to retailers to restock shelf space. Its impossible to talk to every store owner and every major retailer to come up with numbers thats so close to the shipped numbers. They must have a shit ton of autistic people with elephant memory working at this site that have the patience to contact every store and count up everything they sold. Even the link you sent me has what i suspected all along ------> (Consulting with publishers and manufacturers to find out how many units they are introducing into the channel) which im sure is the mostly used method since it makes the most sense and gives the most accurate number. As long as the retailers demand more consoles to restock their empty shelves it should be considered sold anyway. No one is talking to every store owner and counting sales, if thats true im considering believing what Santa Claus does is possible.

Did you not read what he wrote. They get as much information as they can and make an ESTIMATE from that. They don't contact every single store and tally the numbers.

wow.

sorry noob question. Its been buggering me since i joined VGC.

Global hardware numbers aren't including Japan, EU and US right? because if it is then we're looking at more than 1.2 million sales this week! Damn

the global number is the 3 main zones, US/EU/japan,   aswell as Rest of world numbers(they dont have their own column)  all put together.   You can find the ROW numbers by subtracting the US/EU/Japan numbers :)

THEY ARE ESTIMATES. Not 100% factual sales figures.

I respect your opinion but please explain how they count up so much sold items from so much stores and add them up? How many stores do they call on a daily basis to get this information?

I understand that but even if its an estimate there is no way they can get numbers so close to what these companies are claiming they SHIPPED by getting a weighted average from just a few stores. The link he sent to me suggest they take polls from some retailers, not sales which im pretty sure is not much retailers and is a very inaccurate number. The link also suggest they have insiders at the companies (what i claimed to make the most sense) and they get a more accurate number of how much is shipped.  Which number you think they will use as a foundation to estimate? The one directly from the insiders or the polls from the retailers?

ok that's good to know. because 1.2 million in a week sounds too good to be true.

lack of games to play?

Don't worry, he obviously has so many games to play, which is why he is posting in the same thread he is complaining about people making due to having no games to play.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
