Well its not a bad country and its very wealthy, but its not exactly the best place to host such a major event. In the summer tempretures exceed 50 degrees celcius (122 F), its a tiny country with a population of just 2 million people (90% are foreign and most are labourers), and its own football team is not very good. So its surprising that Qatar was chosen over USA, Japan and Australia. It just doesn't make sesne. I don't even know how will they even fill up the stadiums with such a small population.

What would an MS FIFA sponsorship bring to European sales prospects?

EA would still have the license to the actual video game. As others have said, UEFA Champions League is the main event in football right now.

Primarily, it would have MS boards at the world cup every 4 years.

Yes that's exactly what's suspected. Besides, Qatar has been known to throw money around for their own interests. Oh well, its gonna be a massive waste of money for them, cause after the world cup is over, they would have built all that infrastructure and all those hotels and stadiums for nothing.
