LOL who thinks this stuff up. Thanks for the good laugh. Seriously though they will probably do a little better than last year but no resurgence to be seen in the near future for now.

The article seems to be talking more about profits than it does about hardware sales. Basically since Nintendo had a profitable quarter ($224 million), they are expected to do real well this quarter with Smash Bros+Amiibo+Pokémon+holiday boost for hardware/previously released software. In that respect I would have to agree with the article.

If they hade released MK8 and Smash as a multi platform game on ps3/ps4/x360/Xbox One they would have posted a much higher profit. So profit in this case isn't that much of an indicator it's just short term. Nobody in their right minds expected them to post another loss with the launch of those two games.

Fact is sales wise this holiday is going to be really dissapointing and this is probably going to be as good as it will get for both 3DS and Wii-U. It will be mostly downhill after this, and that's why i think you can't really speak of an resurgence.

Well they cant do any worse so its all going up from this point till hardware gets old and tapers of.

This is one of the times its hard to be wrong.

OH NO! Now Wii U is dead for sure

I agree they can have a resurgence with profits and i'd say they will play it really safe with the production of their next console. So massive losses prob won't occur even if the Wii U 2 flops.

But in terms of the Wii U making a comeback absolutely not. In October it sold a mere 69k units. Japan it sold maybe 30k and the rest of the world was bad. SSB will give it a great boost but that's not hard when the baseline is so low. It will be like MK8. Then by Feb it will have gone back down.

I hope they don't play it too safe w the next console -  I think that has been one of the problems w the Wii u-  they wanted to see if the market would commit to it before they were willing to - they have been playing catch up ever since

Nintendo will have to make a bit of a move on market share at some point. If not, public perception of the console as a complete failure could kill any chance of the U living up to its, now limited, sales potential (20m). Microsoft may have even baited them into a price drop this year, had the projections for Smash and amiibo looked grim.

As it is, Ninty isn't going to pass up their best chance at bringing home some serious bacon in a long while. This winter should give them enough financial padding that they can justify a price drop to get more consoles into homes before Zelda hits the market next year. They've let Microsoft take the lead (for the long haul now, I would expect) in exchange for making money -- a novel idea in the console market these days, it seems.

As long as Nintendo finds a way to make money, they will still be making new games. As a fan, that's what really matters. With as high an attach rate as their first-party titles have, even as little as 12-14m consoles in homes by the time Zelda (and Star Fox) come to town could mean massive software sales. This is, of course, assuming that Splatoon, Mario Maker, Kirby, Yoshi, Devil's Third, and Xenoblade Chronicles X all fail to make an impact whatsoever.

I agree re market share -  at some point before releasing their next home console I would thnk they would want to generate some momentum via market share and software sales - but w Nintendo who knows

Nintendo has posted losses in the last three years, they are now on track to post profits this year and for the rest of the generation, that's what the article means by resurgence.

I'm not sure what going third party really has to do with anything.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I guess when your dead last you grasp at whatever good news you can get good luck with all this.

Nintendo is DOOOOOOOO- wait, Patcher said something nice about Nintendo?
I-I dont know what to think.....

Nintendo will easily make a profit this Holidays, from Amiibos alone will net them net profit.
BUT to say Nintendo will have a resurgence is too early to say. I hope the sales will garner more interest from other devs to release games on the console and in turn will release more and more games on it. But definitely wont be an immediate thing.

Perhaps, but the same thing could be said about releasing Uncharted for every console, or Halo for that matter.

And I dont think the sales for Nintendo will be dissappointing this Holidays. Not near the level of PS4/Xbone, but definitely not dissappointing.
