Can people please cut down on the constant attacking of the site owner?

At best, we're presented with incomplete and confusing information - no one in this thread can claim to have a perfect understanding of the limited and ambiguous figures made available to us.

No one has claimed VGC is 100% accurate, or close to it. Vitriol targeted at the site, ioi or anyone else for that matter is unhelpful. Want to disagree with the sites numbers? Fine. But there are respectful ways to do that.

The thing is no one is complaining about weekly numbers being off, we know it is quite hard to have them right... but to claim they are right when there is plentifull of information against it. Claim a company is lying about a number, then say sold numbers are shipped isn't the way to props the site reputation.

I could be wrong, but I am quite sure that ioi has never accused any of the three manufacturers of lying in official reports?

And in the two cases discussed recently - this thread and the one about console sales in Germany - there is at best ambiguous information about whether we're dealing with shipped or sold numbers.

And again, I do not think that ioi, or anyone else, has claimed in recent history that the week-on-week numbers are 'right.' Simply within a margin of error (which, I will grant you, has gotten larger since the latest consoles launched).

But even if all of what I just said was untrue, it wouldn't be a reason to be rude or disrespectful about it.

Agree... no need to be disrespectfull torwards him, but what I saw were most jokes, but ok he isn't in the thread so the forum rule wouldn't allow it.

About him saying it. In the 10M announcement that Sony said dozen times it was sold through he said "if sony is to be trusted". In the Germany article the world used translated as "sold to customer" as explained by people that know german. And in this new the article says sold through and in the twitter post it was reafirmed so I have no problem accepting that PS4 sold 1M to customer in Germany and X1 in UK.

ioi's estimates are better than anything else youre going to get on a weekly basis.  In the end the numbers will be fixed.  If you want to help him out then send him a message with official info and move on. No reason to attack him for free information that is relatively close with adjustements here and there to make them more accurate

I don't think most will disagree that the weekly numbers are satisfactory for what they are (altough we usually know when they are quite off). But about the numbers, he get the numbers from GFK, MVC, etc. He got the numbers from Sony, he got shipped numbers, several weeks have passed but no adjustments were made so there is no point to keep asking people to stop complaining about the shortcomings of the site.

I am glad we agree. I do not think people should refrain from saying there are discrepencies in the numbers if thats what they feel. But there are right and wrong ways to go about that (additionally, its starting to become all some users talk about - which is frankly just boring).

I have not seen the tweet, which would be nice for clearing things up? But certainly I saw a number of Western news sources, and they did not appear to pick up on any translation of sold through, and some that were based on a GAF poster with a flawed history.

Which does not mean the number was shipped or sold, it just means there is plenty of ambiguity, making attacks on ioi all the less valid.

I don't think any reason is valid to attack ioi even if we disagree about his numbers or comments. Talking about it for so long can be boring, but it is all in the same timeframe the Germany, UK, shipments they are all to close and the only reaction was further down adjustments and I bet that got a lot of people quite unpleased.

In this same thread a few posts before this there is the clarification on twitter... on the germany news some users translated the part about the selling, but it is acceptable to not completely believe them before we get official info.

Man this is so sad this is what passes as good news for the xbone relative to the ps4. They might win an npd in nov and or dec at best, and a few weeks in the uk which is a tiny fraction of the overall european markets total numbers. I guess whatever makes people happy enjoy these small victories cause after the holidays its just gonna go back to the way it was the first 10 months except microsoft will eventually run out of price drops and free games to artifically boost their sagging numbers.
