Forums - Microsoft - Xbox One Has Made The Most Remarkable Comeback In Video Game Industry History, Better Option Than PS4 In Holiday 2014

Isn't it kind of stupid to call it a comeback when for awhile it was tracking ahead of the 360's sales? I mean, when you compare it to the PS4 yeah, it's sales look bad (I don't recall similar articles saying the 360 had a miraculous comeback against the Wii, for example), but when you look at consoles sales historically, the XB1 still isn't doing that bad. And anyone who thought it would sell poorly during the holidays is a fool. There's no way in hell it wasn't going to shift units (In the US), as it's the biggest spending period of the year. It IS doing poorly in Europe/RoW though, that much is certain.

Interesting the route each has taken, kinect had better tech was a success and I think pulled it off as appearing as something new, I have watched the PS2 eye toy clips on you tube, I never owned one, but it's amazing to watch that Sony had basically already being doing it!

Yep. As I always said, Microsoft is better at dealing with consumer perception than Sony. Sony also never saw fit to force bundle any peripherals even if it came at a loss. As Jack Tretton said when people asked why Sony didn't follow MS with force bundling the Eyetoy. Its a stupid question to ask them to begin with. They started to major Camera gaming trend and MS just popularized it. Sony never...ever saw fit to force the consumer into anything they didn't want. As you can see Sony has always profited off of the Eyetoy hence the newer iterations.

Have to agree that MS market their products well, although I think Sony have improved a lot this gen. To force the consumer has definitely backfired, have read that the PS4 camera is selling well, just wonder if it will it ever get utilized fully and become a must have peripheral, I use mine for voice commands atm more for fun than anything, still I think it was worth it. :)

I don't think Sony marketed their product better than MS (In fact I think Microsofts marketing is still better outside of Sony's destiny bundle).  Sony got the hype and also they are more trusted worldwide than Microsoft. Its a tough sell for Microsoft naturally world wide when they both launch. In America specifically its a battleground because they are so similar, but little things like friends or exclusives can change the tide of the fight. The PS4 camera will have games for it. Sony never really lacks the games for it, its just the hype behind the games. Again...their marketing still isnt on level with MS for me. Microsoft tends to focus on a tight group of games and market the crap out of them while Sony develops a fleet and can only market for few. They spread themselves too thin. This gen they promised to slow it down, but even when they slow down what they put out is still more. Lets stay tuned and see if it works. I love both my Xbone and PS4 right now though.

Its weird to see so many people talk about how well the Xbox One is doing.

Well I know that. Its just that this is one of the only scenarios where certain people will flat out say it.

I suppose in terms of public image it definitely has had a major comeback. It's been outselling the Xbox 360 since launch though, so I dunno if I would call it the most spectacular comeback ever.

I'd give that title to the PS3 first, considering how bad its image and its sales were for the first few years. Possibly the 3DS in 2nd, since it pretty much fizzled out right after launch and didn't regain any significant momentum until the end of the year when games finally released for it. Price cut definitely helped for that one too.

i see no comeback what so ever

Yeah, agree MS are still top at marketing. I think the UK is the same as US it's tough for both and good call on the little things, friends do make a difference, who has what influences the rest and then if one gets a great game for whatever system, your friends tend to follow, I have witnessed this. Ha ha yeah Sony do the more is best approach hoping something sticks, where as MS tend to do less but make them stick. I don't think either will lack for games both seem intent on providing great games. Even so early in the gen it's great time to own them both, I just got the PS4 for now, it's getting more tempting but if I hold out the X1 for me is properly when Halo 5 drops. :)

Well, normally we're used to comparing Sony vs Microsoft with regards to health of sales, however, in cases such as this where there's an overwhelming leader (like with the Wii last gen), and a distant 2nd, it's disingenuous to compare the two, and say the XB1 is failing.  That's incorrect.  The PS4, is simply doing historically good (though probably trending below the Wii now), just like the Wii was, in it's heyday.  That still doesn't mean the XB1 is failing, just means it's not doing as well as the industry leader.

Better Option? YES!

ComebacK? what are you talking about........
