Forums - Gaming Discussion - What does 'nearly' 10 million shipped mean?

It was pre-emptive PR, so:

"We're going to lose NPD....again. But we want you to think we're doing well"

And, apparently, it's done it's job. People are actually thinking that XBone really is close to 10 million in sales, despite the launch 3M sales WW + all 2014 NPDs + weak Europe + meh China + DOA in Japan show that it's not near there yet.

No, that wouldn't make any sense. "Shortly we will have shipped 10 million" clearly means they're at 9.999M shipped and there's no way MS didn't rev up shipments in lieu of price cuts, bundles, black friday and the holiday season in general, and then use that shipment figure (probably meant for the entirety of the holiday season) to make everything look great.

No different than when Sony announced 7 million sold in April, so MS turned around and announced 5 million shipped, literally the next day (and these numbers were after the fallout of revving up shipments for Titanfall). PR tactics to make it seem like they're "not far behind", when they really are

It means they needed a spin to make shipped numbers look higher than it is, because the real shipped numbers are already way higher than sales to consumers.

I love the fact that one company gives us a definite figure and some people question it but another company gives us ambiguous figures and the same people take the most optimistic estimate they can. Brilliant.

The more important question is how much have been sold. I am thinking a lot of those shipmenta havent been sold to consumers and has been dramatically increased due to the holidays

They gonna need a very big landfill to dump all those consoles...

*******

It means what it means. They shipped close to 10mi by the end of previous week. They probaly have sold between 8mi to 8.5mi.

It takes about one to two weeks to shipped units to reach store shelves and online inventory. MS and retailers WW probaly expect to sell those "nearly"10mi consoles by the end of BF week or the week next.

XOne has all the chances to beat last year 3mi consoles sold from Nov 15th to the end of the year. Even if you consider a low end of 7mi consoles sold by November 1th, they can easily reach 10mi by the end of the year.

I for once expect anything between 10.5 to 11.5, in a 12mi console shipped.

It means they're over-shipping in the hopes Black Friday in the USA and the Christmas period worldwide will take care of getting those units into households. Let's see how it pans out.

It means their incredibly desperate to release good news, in spite of not having it.

This is the Game of Thrones

Where you either win

or you DIE

They will cross the 10 million before Dec 31.

That is what I got.

It can be anything from 7.5m to 9.9m at the date of the announce.

It means they haven't shipped 10 million yet :)

Probably 9+ million shipped but only about 7 million sold to consumer. In the other hand PS4 13.5 million shipped and about 13 million sold to consumer.

It probably means they expect to post 10 million sold in their next financial report.
