I am confused on how there is "too much competition" for this service.. There is ZERO competition. Sony would be the FIRST to get an Internet Cable service up and running. Intel, Verizon, Dish, etc.. have all tried and or are trying to .. But NO one else has fully announced or released anything. This is the future of TV.. This is the COMPETITION for CABLE.. This is for CORD CUTTERS.. I am confused on what you think this is.. this is not Netflix or Hulu, or anything like those..

I think he meant that there will be a lot of competitors to this service in future, which might be true. But just like the early music and movie subscription services, once you become the first major service provider, then you can create a leadership stance which in turn will garner you a lot of buzz when other similar services get into the market.
This is sort of what’s happening with Spotify, as they are not necessarily better than the other music service subscriptions, but since they were one of the earliest companies to push for streaming music, they have enabled themselves as a sort of de facto streaming music service. So nowadays everything is pitted against them and the typical conclusion is that if you have Spotify, there's no need to change to another service as they are all very similar.
My point is that being the very first matters a lot when it comes to subscription based services, and so Sony being first here shall put them in an advantageous position. In addition, like I said above, Sony's PlayStation is something no other company has. I mean it's true that iOS is nearing a billion devices sold, but those are all Smart Devices which in this case will hardly help Apple because this kind of service is far more suited to the TV rather than a phone or tablet.
