I guess PS4 won october npd, seems real early for a pre-npd statement

Edit: Now that i fully read it, 10 million shipped? No wonder they have crazy deals going on. I guess US retailers must be overstocked. And sales more than 3x in US alone doesnt mean we would see a jump from 6m units to 10m units people :(

Except there isn't 10m shipped yet so we cannot say there's more than 3m on the shelves. I do agree that both are badly undertracked, nonetheless

"Almost" could mean 9.9m or 9.8m, either way the consoles are undertracked which was my main point. 

probably not.   firstly,. "approaching" 10M shipped means not there yet.    secondly, as it is a shipment number and we are seeing things like that guarenteed in stock at walmart deal i'll bet there are a ton of xboxs in waiting/transit for black friday.  i mean, historically on the week of black friday we can see sales in the 600k+ region and ms seems to be going all out for this black friday.

We are almost 2 weeks from bf, if they hadnt shipped close to 10 it would be worrisome. the triple sales is impressive, but they also had major bundles with a price cut so its not really surprising, we knew it was going to be very strong.

No, what this is is MS announcing shipped numbers after they have just got most of the stock for Xmas and Black Friday on its way. Of course, if sales don't keep up, instead of slowly falling (at least going by Amazon), then they are going to have a very small shipment number in Q1 2015.

Oh, alot of downplaying in this thread I see :). "Almost 10M" could also mean 9.8M you know, but they put it out now to have great PR ahead of NPD. Besides, shouldn't everyone be happy the 8th generation is selling so well, I thought I was the negative one thinking this generation will tank in the end :).

And there you have it. This is just straight up deception. MS suddenly stops giving out NPD numbers, leakers are pressured to stop giving out NPD results, Arstechnica writes a complete and utter joke of an article and now Nelson blatently gives out false information. I could throw one other in there but I won't. The stars are all aligning nicely for Microsoft. They couldn't have asked for a better situation leading into Christmas.
