The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64, 1998)

guessed by Conegamer (who then told Wright, the credit hog)

Ocarina of Time is a masterpiece, the pinnacle of Nintendo creativity and ingenuity, and the benchmark against which all games -- past, present, and future -- must be judged. It pioneered innovations like z-targeting, auto-jump, and context sensitive buttons. It took existing game mechanics like horseback riding, fishing, and the realistic passage of time and wove them into the game narrative like never before. Truly, Ocarina has everything: a sweeping musical score for the ages; vast, fully-realized three-dimensional worlds; innovative and easy-to-use controls; an epic and emotionally engaging storyline; and gameplay so rich, varied, and engaging that it has no equal.

----

Mario Party 2 and Mario Kart 64 score high because every time I play games at a party, these are the games we still play. The best in each respective series and just amazing multiplayer games overall.

Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG are my favorite RPG's, so they are high up too. Front Mission, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, and Advance Wars take up the next few spaces because they define video games for me. All portable, but all so damn well built and addictive. I love Turn based RPG's and Strategy games.

After that, the list just includes my favourites. Metroid Prime and Gears of War create an amazing atmosphere, Lost Odyssey is one of the best JRPG's ever made. Golden Sun is also fun as hell too. Forza 3 is the best SIM racer, Mass Effect 2 is my favourite WRPG, has amazing pacing and storytelling even though the plot itself is meh. Counter Strike and Lost Planet are fun multiplayer games, and Kirby's Dream Course is just a relaxing awesome game.

----

This year I have some more classic JRPG's on my to do list. XenoGears, Chrono Cross, & Suikoden will likely be played and likely appear high on the list based off initial impressions. Front Mission 3 is a huge letdown though . I'm also working on some classic Fire Emblem games, Zelda for Wii and a few others, it's going to be really hard to decide what makes the cut soon, we need a top 100.

1. Metroid Prime

Not much that can be said about it. Atmosphere, challenge, enemy varieties, weapons, exploration, Samus doing what she does best. It's been too long since i played it, but i've been trying to dig into neglected games in my collection, so i've been picking games at random out of my collection when i have nothing to play. Last year i picked: Super Mario Galaxy, No More Heroes 2, StarFox 64, Super Mario World, Wario Land II, Bomberman 64, and Yoshi's Story. So perhaps one day i'll get back to the best game ever, but it'll rely on a roll of the dice.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Skyward Sword?

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

(Guessed by Conegamer)

Knights of the Old Republic isn't the game I've replayed the most. It has somewhat aged decently, although with a few missteps along the way. Its graphics are starting to show its age. It still features some of the strangests bugs in gaming history.

And yet...and yet! This is the most enjoyable experience I've had on my gaming career. Every single area is done in an exemplary way, whether it is the superb plot (I dare to say, this game is even better than its original source. Heck, KOTOR is better than anything else on the Star Wars universe, with maybe Jedi Outcast and The Empire Strikes Back matching it), the outstanding gameplay system, based on both traditional D&D structure and the player's skill and strategy, the character interaction and developing, the memorable Star Wars soundtrack, the lively planets waiting for you to explore and the plot twist that, while overused nowadays in a lot of media, was groundbreaking for its time (Probably one of the few times I've had massive goosebumps while playing a game). It's hard for me to describe this game without being all biased, but that's just because of how much I love it. How much I've spend in its world, and doing all the possible outcomes regarding who you are and what mission you're doing.

If that doesn't convince you, well...

This game features the very first lesbian relationship in Star Wars!

No?, well, how about...

This is the only game I know that allows you to defeat the final boss by transforming him into a Twi'lek and defeating him by dancing.

Also, 93 lists tallied thus far (thank you all again!).

Exactly 1100 games have been voted for thus far.

#5 - After the emotional ending, it has a "Fin" screen instead of "The End".
#4 - Before I established Rocket as my profile picture, I had another character as my avatar here - that character's name is part of a little pun in this game's title.
#3 - This game sees a villain become a sort of partner, but not before they get stuck on a vegetable.
#1 - This might be a cheap hint, but all I'm going to say is I expect someone to know what's my favorite game, since I never kept it a secret from anybody.

Repost time!

#5 - come on, guys. Emotional ending, "Fin" screen and Nintendo exclusive? I think that's far more than enough for people who played it to know what it is, and a lot of people have played it - it's a 10m+ seller!

#4 - The character in my avatar was his most recent redesign, from a game that had just been announced at E3.

#3 - But while the villain turns into a partner inside a potato, a previous friend becomes an enemy.

#1 - Maybe I was being too hopeful there, it was a bit of an extreme hint. But I still want to believe someone remembers this hmmmm... there was artwork of something from this game in my signature before I replaced it with the Star Fox picture. (why do I keep thinking people will remember this kind of stuff?)

#3 is Portal 2, not sure on the rest.

I will ponder. Happy new year!
