Ok, it's the top 10 now and I can participate in the quiz game, too.
10. This game started as a free mod in the late 90s and the first beta had only four maps and one mode.

That was too easy, lol.
11. Resident Evil 4
GameCube, PS2, Wii (2005)
Capcom Production Studio 4
I consider Resident Evil 4 a masterful game. The pacing, the action, the scares, the bosses, the music, the one liners, the revolutionary gameplay... it all adds up to a game that redefines what a video game can achieve. Not many games can say that they caused a revolution within the gaming industry, and all done while juggling the expectations and traditions of a much beloved franchise. It's funny, as the higher we go, the less words I have to describe why I love these games so much. Why say anything at all when you can just sit down and play these games that have rocked your gaming world? Well I've gone through Resident Evil 4 9 times now, and it was a thrill to play each and every time. Everything just falls into place so... perfectly. Words fall short on how great a game this is. So who needs words when you can just play?
10. Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow
GameBoy (1998)
Game Freak
The game that started it all. Not just a game franchise, but a cultural phenomenon that's still felt today. I can't tell you how many times I played and replayed this game. How many times I defeated the Elite Four and Gary (his name is Gary!) to become the Pokemon League Champion. How many times I abused the Missingno. glitch to get infinite Rare Candies and Masterballs. How many rocks and Safari Balls I used to finally get Scyther. How many times I felt all powerful by using said Master Ball on Mewtwo, the most powerful Pokemon of them all. Or how many times I checked that random truck in Vermillion City for the elusive Mew. All I can tell you is that Pokemon Red/Blue (and later on Yellow) started something in my gaming life that's still being felt to this very day. The game has heart, and in the end that's what matters.
#14 - Super Mario Galaxy 2
This game could have easily fallen in the trap of the lazy sequel but it certainly did not. Once again the team at Nintendo EAD proved to be bursting with new ideas and crazy concepts, not just on Yoshi levels, pretty much every galaxy had its share of originality.
The soundtrack is once again top notch, the graphics breathtaking, the controls precise and responsive and this time around the hunt for green stars is made much more interesting than in the first Mario Galaxy by making you look for stars in a fashion that kinda reminded me of Super Mario 64.

#13 - Final Fantasy II (IV)
For me the Final Fantasy series jumped from I to IV since FFII and FFIII were never released in North America. It was a radical change instead of a cast of interchangeable heroes, I was treated to a strong array of characters, each with their own personalities and motivations. The story is full of twists and turns, with the theme of redemption and sacrifice being ever present throughout. The game also has a tremendous soundtrack (with the boss battle theme ever).

#12 - Metal Gear Solid
A late PS1 title but such a good one. Still to this day the best in the Metal Gear series. The story strikes a perfect balance between the fantastic and the realistic. The characters are almost all memorable from the heroes (Snake, Meryl, Otacon) to the vilains (Liquid, Revolver Ocelot, Sniper Wolf, Psycho Mantis, ect...). There's a heavy focus on stealth while not sacrificing combat should you screw up. Boss fights are top notch and greatly varied. You fight a tank with your grenades, a ninja with your bare hands, you have to outsmart the mind-bending Psycho Mantis, you have to outgun Sniper Wolf, get the best of an helicopter with a rocket launcher, the game is packed with thrills and surprises.
