#12 - Metal Gear Solid
A late PS1 title but such a good one. Still to this day the best in the Metal Gear series. The story strikes a perfect balance between the fantastic and the realistic. The characters are almost all memorable from the heroes (Snake, Meryl, Otacon) to the vilains (Liquid, Revolver Ocelot, Sniper Wolf, Psycho Mantis, ect...). There's a heavy focus on stealth while not sacrificing combat should you screw up. Boss fights are top notch and greatly varied. You fight a tank with your grenades, a ninja with your bare hands, you have to outsmart the mind-bending Psycho Mantis, you have to outgun Sniper Wolf, get the best of an helicopter with a rocket launcher, the game is packed with thrills and surprises.
