Incorrect!

I never played the former, but the latter was good.

Diddy Kong Racing?

You got it!

Here's a hint for the #49 game. I'll make it easy. It's a sequel of a successful racing franchise. For this day and age, it has a questionable soundtrack, majorly consisting on urban music. It has an impressive amount of cars, and you can progress thru 3 non-major cities. Extra tip to make it easier: there's a remake of it on the same consoles that adds more cars and an additional (major) city.

Since nobody guess it, My #50 is Long Live The Queen for Steam, developed by Hanako Games and released on Steam in 2013. A visual novel where you play as the soon to be Queen. However, there stuff like assassins, internal turmoil, foreign politics, regal procedures and magic. As a young 14 year old girl, you must deal with all that. You handle this by taking classes and making choices. And you make a lot of mistakes, and then die and then die again. it's a trial & error process but it is pretty exciting to make choices seeing where it takes you.

Hint for #49: This brawler follows the theme of regality

#14 GunfighterPhilips G7000, 1979

US name: Showdown in 2100 A.D., Magnavox Odyssey2, 1979

Look at those graphics.

In Europe, we were all thinking we were a cowboy, but with graphics this primitive Americans thought they were supposed to play as a robotic cyborg shooting lazers sometime in the future because that's what the boxart made them believe. In reality, what mattered is that you and your friend were just trying to shoot each other until one of you won. Each player got six bullets to shoot and each turn the 'trees' change position. The trees are not only obstacles, but reflect your bullet back. It is therefore possible to kill yourself, which counts as a point for the other player. The simplicity and innocence of such an old game along with the smooth controller of the G7000 (much better than competitor Atari 2600's), this makes for one of the most fun and intense local multiplayer shooters ever.

Naturally, I wouldn't objectively call this the '#50 Best Game Ever Made' anymore, but this game has special meaning to me. The game is nine years older than I am, but because my mother introduced me to gaming at a very young age with her own G7000 system she kept for a decade, this game may very well be the first game I ever played. Sadly I'm not sure anymore, because there are a few other contenders still. I think everyone should introduce their children to primitive games such as this. Even as a child, the art and appeal of gaming, you immediately 'get it'.

#50 - Mario Party 3. I had a hard time picking my favorite Mario Party but it came down to 3, as it had my favorite maps and mini-games. It also had some cool single-player mini-games with the Millenium Star.

Hint for #49 - Least commercially successful winner of IGN's Game of the Year award.

Okami

Game #49

This game, to my knowledge only playable on a platform not exactly known for gaming (unless you're talking about the mobile platform), is in fact mostly a clone of an older NES game. It involves making blocks as platforms, getting the key and exiting the level.

#50
Far Cry Instincts (Xbox, 2005)
guessed by S.Peelman

On a system defined by its excellent first-person shooters, Far Cry Instincts stands out as one of the best. While less open-ended than the PC original, Instincts is a stellar game in its own right, boasting multiplayer modes, weapons, and "feral abilities" found only on Xbox. The environments in the game are gorgeous and detailed, and, despite the limited processing power of the Xbox, large enough to allow players to tackle objectives according to several different strategies. Want to go in guns blazing? No problem. Rather lure the enemy out and eliminate its forces one-by-one with deadly traps? Instincts has you covered. The result is a deep, surprisingly strategic shooter that ranks among the best Xbox has to offer.

By the way, game 50 for me is Wizards and Warriors 3 on the NES.

It's a not so famous Action / Platformer with quiet a bit of exploration. The funny part of the game is that most of the exploration / traveling is done vertically. Houses are built on top of each other with a huge castle on top of everything. Graphics were nice for the time and you had the ability to switch between 3 jobs (Warrior / Thief / Wizard) during the game which was off course mandatory on several occasions.
