"In breaking news, a man has pleaded guilty to saying hi to a woman in the street. This heinous crime has left the neighborhood shocked, and under new legislation, the man will now be placed on the sex offender's register. He was convicted of one count of greeting a female, and two counts of having a sex drive, and faces four years in jail.

According to experts, sexual harassment is at an all time high, with the average woman reporting receiving verbal greetings from at least three men daily."

"and in other news a guy said hi to a girl and she didn't respond and was then subsequently raped and murdered and  then blamed for not smiling and responding."

Hmm.... one news line is something that actually happens and the other isn't. When you see this all the time happening it's not to hard to imagine women feeling harassed by men saying hi on the street. Noone is asking to jail people saying hi.

I was speaking in hyperbole to illustrate just how perverse this line of thought can get if we keep broadening the definition of "harassment" to the degree that this video does. Where does it end? Will a guy approaching a girl at a club become harrassment? Will a guy trying to strike up a conversation with a girl at a bus stop become harrassment? In both cases, it would be if he persisted when rebuffed, but in this video, many of the men do not persist when she shows no interest. It cheapens the suffering of those who experience genuine harrassment to call being greeted in the street harrassment.

You know what my point was - if any of those guys in the video didn't greet men the same way, then they are comitting sexual harassment, because the greeting is simply a way for them to open with the opposite sex.

"You know what my point was"

yes i do and ironically i don't think that you understand yourself

i understand that this movement stems from a fear of men and the capacity of men to infringe upon the safety of women

i also understand that in order to solve this "problem" that ultimately the result will be to start stripping away the freedoms of men so women can feel safer

because you see ultimately freedom and safety are at polar opposites from each other

i can see quite clearly that if people don't start waking up to where this is heading that more and more freedoms are going to stripped away in the name of safety

and who strips away freedoms?

the state that is who

so ultimately the goal of feminism ( at this point in time ) is to increase governement and its intrusion into the lives of people

that people are not seeing this is beyond me but whatever

it is not and can never be to make the treatment of men and women equal because to any thinking person men and women are not equal that people fall for this crap i fail to understand

No, the ultimate goal is awareness of others around you and not just yourself. No laws need to be added if people could take the time to realize how their actions affect others. You want this stuff to stop then next time ask yourself how does she feel about my behaviors, am I sending the message I want to send. If your tool for meeting women and engaging in sex is saying "hi" on the street, then you should listen, as these women are telling you they don't want that. Maybe start thinking "hey maybe I am going about this the wrong way".

I am for one against any law that would forbid anyone to say hi. I am one who is for informing others how their actions affect others.

Also pro tip men, in this new generation, getting into a relationship is now EVEN HARDER, because for you to make the first move, in ANY way, is now considered sexual harrasment.

Good luck, humanity, if relationships are left up to women to instigate then the human race is doomed.

We cant even choose what shoes we want to wear, and now we are expected to choose our sexual partners too?

" No laws need to be added if people could take the time to realize how there actions affect others."

that is silly reasoning and i already explained why

as long as people have freedom they will do both behavior that falls within the acceptable range and behavior that goes beyond it

that is why murder, theft, rape etc happen

we know universally in society that these actions are wrong but they still occur

there will never be a situation where education can be relied on to stop people from being hurt it can never happen

and this is the great lie that feminism proposes that we can all reach a utopian society

a place where everyone is treated the same and no one is ever hurt... its a fairytale buddy it cannot happen because it conflicts directly with universal law

"You want this stuff to stop then next time ask yourself how does she feel about my behaviors, am I sending the message I want to send."

it does not matter what i believe

i already said that i think catcalling women is both counterproductive and retarded and that men need to withdraw some of the effort they put into appeasing women and use that on themselves

what matters is embracing reality

"Maybe start thinking "hey maybe I am going about this the wrong way"."

perhaps it actully works for them at times?

i don't know and again i agree that its stupid

"I am for one against any law that would forbid anyone to say hi."

as am i, however, if you are truly serious about destroying the harassment of women

then you have to realise that the only way to do so is to leverage the power of the state to reduce the freedoms men have with regards to interacting with women

that is the only way otherwise this "problem" will continue to be perpetuated

" I am one who is for informing others how their actions affect others."

lol let me ask you something here

when a murderer chooses to aim a gun at someone's head and pull the trigger, do you really believe that he/she is not aware that they are causing harm to someone?

well of course they do... but they still kill the person... why?

because their interests conflicted with the interests of the person they killed that's why

ultimately people are generally going to choose to put their own interests above the interests of others even if it results in harm to another person

i'll give you another example of this in this very thread i had a dialogue with someone else here who claimed that men choosing to talk directly to women is harassment because it may have sexual undertones and may impact negatively on a woman

now this is true it is possible that this could result in harm to a woman

so the person was willing to demonise any initiation of conversation from man to woman... why?

because they put their interests ahead of the interests of men without care for how men may be harmed or affected adversely

now obviously this is nowhere near as extreme as murder but the idea is the same

it also shows the theme of restriction of freedom being used to ensure safety

I kinda miss the days when if someone in the street said hi, have a nice day, the appropriate response was to say "thanks, you too", rather than rush home, jump on the internet and complain about being harassed.

Oh, and Psst, Will smith..

Throughout life people will make you mad
Disrespect you and treat you bad
Let God deal with the things they do
'Cause hate in your heart will consume you too
Always tell the truth, say your prayers
Hold doors, pull out chairs, easy on the swears

Might wanna tell your kid to forget the doors and chairs, thats now frowned upon

Extreme feminism is ridiculous, most women just want equality. We don't want to be treated like sexual objects, like sidekicks to men. You don't need the state to do that, it can be done by educating men. A lot of things about how men interact with women and other men has changed for the better without the need of state action - simply social pressure and education has brought about those changes. Same idea is behind most civil rights movements.

Utopia isn't the goal. Progress can be achieved bia education, look at the civil rights movements of black, gays and other minorities. Is there equality? No, but it's headed more and more in that direction and that's the point.
