Am I really the one who doesn't have a problem with the item balance? I think it's much better than MKWii's item balance... :/

I completely agree with this. MKW was 3 blueshells per race, now it's much better.

People get mad about getting mostly coins on #1, but I think that's perfectly fine.

Pretty much! I honestly don't know why people get mad over getting mostly coins #1! That surely didn't bother me too much!

When you get a coin you know you are defenseless until the next blocks... you are also unable to attack. But you get a very small speed increase so it's fine... until you have 10 coins and still get new coins, it's completely useless and it's like you don't have items even if you take blocks.

OK, OK.. I admit that coins did screw me up a couple of times, but not enough to make me say that the item balance is shit or something!

The balance item is great I found, just the coin thing is useless,  when you have 10 of them already.

I like the fact that the blue shell hysteria was reduced from MK Wii and the fact that there is now an item to stop it, even if rare.  The fact that you can't stockpile items is also more fair, because it was almost impossible to hit the first without a blue shell. You also don't lose items when taking a regular hit. I also like the new plant item. For me everything feels fine, except the fact that you can get a coin while being 10th and that the lightning almost does not benefit its user while being super annoying potentially.

But while you don't lose your items from taking a hit, the lack of a back-up and the coin item existing means you'll get combo'd regularly. This isn't a problem for you? Also the Shock is less powerful, mainly because the follow item you get wont always be good, but still very potent and even 3rd can get it now.

My only issue is blue shells. Fuck blue shells to hell! They're totally pointless and only serve as spoiled grapes. They don't help the 9th placed racer (you never see second or third place getting one) and with only ONE single item having the ability to block them, they're totally cheap.

Other than that, the game is fantastic.

You're wrong on every account here, as the Blue Shell only shows up 0-2 times a race, clearly do serve a purpose which is punishing 1st who'll otherwise be difficult to hit,

Why the hell should we punish SKILL? See, that's my problem. If someone plays the game and puts in the work to be the best racer they can be, that skill should be REWARDED, not punished. Blue shells are a way for lesser skilled people to cheat their way into victories they DON'T DESERVE. Getting a blue shell is luck and nothing more. There is no skill involved in throwing a blue shell so the ONLY purpose for them being in the game is to punish people who are actually good at said game.

Do you think it's fair for the 1st to be totally protected from any attacks? It's like playing without items then because you can defeand red shells fairly easily being first. Not fair and not Mario Kart. If you are looking into the pure skill-simulation game this is not meant to be Mario Kart. The best player will usually win, but no always...

I say that and I have been really annoyed by blue shells at time, like losing 3 times in a row in an attempt to get 3 stars at the last circuit of the cup because of blue shells. But it's the game...

Getting combo'ed is always a thing, you can take 3 hits and then falls out of the circuits.... Bad luck is part of what make Mario Kart so irritating while so fun at the same time. You can keep all your item well, defend the best you can, there is still a chance you will get it. But someone playing smartly will be hit much less often than the guy throwing his banana in the air.

Niot losing your item give you a chance to strikeback immediately. I love that.

Firstly you're wrongly assuming 1st place got there purely because of skill when it could be the items either boosting him up there or killing everyone else. Secondly the luckfactor and rubberbanding is what makes Mario Kart Mario Kart. Every race is interesting when you can never be sure of the outcome even if you're the best player in the pack. Thirdly skill is of course relevant, less so in MK8, but still the most important thing, just not the only thing. If you want a purely skill based racer, play a different game!

I understand MK but I just think blue shells are a joke. Red shells? You have to TIME them and even without an item behind you, first place can use skill to try an avoid them. Green shells? Again, those take even MORE skill to use. Lightning bolts are fine because everyone but the user gets screwed and the user is usually not in second or third place. But blue shells? No...

Again, if second place wants to win, then second place shouldn't be able to just fall back and wait until someody throwing a magic blue shell and then pass first place. Even in a game like MK, skill needs to be the best item you can get because if skill means nothing, then why play? Just for fun? What motivation do you have to even compete in a game that is ALL based on luck? There is none. That's my problem.

I can't tell you how many times I ask myself "why do I even CARE about the outcome?!?!" lol

I have no problem with items (aside from blue shells). I just think items should be more of a helpful tool, rather than being a deciding tool.

It is always a thing... in MK8. A rare occurrence in MK7, and with 2 items in MKWii it was easier to prevent that first hit, and even when you're inevitably combo'ed, the reliable item system gave you a chance to comeback, something that's a rare occurrence in MK8. That's the main reason why it get's so much flak, as races are now simplified to whoever get's in first after the first set of item boxes has the best chance of winning with everyone else getting item raped.
