Sony being trigger happy to rerelease games doesn't mean much when it's on the decision of Atlus or Sega ... In other words, a rerelease depends on the owner of the IP or it's publisher ...

That is true. Since all the older Persona games are on the PS3 store though, I'm sure they will want them on the PS4 store too if Sony allows it.

Hopefully Vita games themselves cross over

It's a JRPG ...

The game is kinda like Pokemon but with a more mature spin on it and it has some social sim elements in it too ...

What he said but it also has dungeon crawling and fantastic characters/story.

This turned me off. Not a fan of those  :C

For the most part the dungeon crawling is tolerable since the combat is fun and vibrant (...as vibrant as turn based JRPGs can get), but sometimes the dungeon crawling is a chore. I never finished the FES part of Persona 3 due to that.

Really, I rate Persona 4 higher than Persona 3 due to it having less dungeon crawling, among other things.

It's not like the mainline Persona games since it's set in the style of Etrian Odyssey and uses chibi characters. It also puts the characters from 3 and 4 together for some reason.

And PS1 / PS2 / PSP.

Xbox 360 and PS3 too if you include Arena, which is canon.

It's an excellent JRPG. It has some dungeon crawling mixed with social sim dating elements. It can be a hard game if you aren't familiar with the genre.

It's also part of the Shin Megami Tensei series, most of these games revolve around the idea of using demons to aid you in battle. Think about Pokemon but replace those cute little pets with big nasty demons.

One could say that these series started the "monster catching" mechanic since the first game dates from 1987. So yeah, Pokemon popularized an already stablished genre, it didn't invent anything. *gasp*

I already talked too much I need to stop drinking coffe.

See. This post explains what confuses me. Does it contain simulation elements?

It has sim elements called Social Links. You talk to different people to learn more about them and help them with their issues (through dialogue). This in turn makes it so you can create Personas with better parameters. You also gain access to some new Personas if you reach the end of the Social Links.

You fuse Personas with certain skillsets. Skills are carried over to the fused Persona from the Personas you used to fuse it.

These Personas then help you deal with the dungeons. In Persona 3 though you only have one massive dungeon. In P4, there are multiple dungeons. In P3 and P4, the floor layouts of the dungeons are randomly generated. The battles are turn based.

P3 and P4 also have a calendar system. You attend school for a year, and in a day-by-day basis you do Social Links, enhance certain parameters for your main character, complete dungeons, progress through the plot, etc. You have a limited amount of time per day, but time only passes once you choose to do a specific event.

You seem to have completely forgotten about P1 and P2. Neither of which have the social link elements and play more like traditional SMT games.

Which game is coming to the PS4? P5?

How do I play the other games? (I'd assume I should start with the original)

Start with 3 or 4 (I think 4 is better and a must play) but the stories don't really tie together so you could play either. Persona 1 and 2 are old and outdated games now.

While P1 and P2 are both outdated and have problems, I had a lot of fun and appreciation for P2: Innocent Sin (As I haven't played P1 or P2: EP). It had a great story and great characters but slow gameplay.
