Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Halo: The Master Chief Collection will have a 20GB day one "content update".

20GB of torrent ain't that much, maybe 2hours but on Xbox live jesus christ that shit would take me 8-12hours

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Yes, 1.5mbytes/second is 12mbit speed. So you can actually see your overhead percentage from that. 1.5mbit is slow, but 1.5mbyte per second is decent.

Well the data has to be put into packets, there are signal/request interrupts, and return OK data has to be sent, along with anything else running on the network, busy routers in between, etc. 12mbit sustained on 20mbit nominal is pretty good actually.

Think of the poor bastards with 1.5mbit dsl ;) I live in north DFW, and about 2 miles north of me everyone is limited to 768k "uverse" (rebranded dsl), along with some 1.5mbit if lucky enough to be in areas with a competing isp. But the other isp has caps and throttles the crap out of many thimgs. Netflix is unwatchable.

I was going to buy this game until hearing this news.
Pre-order cancelled.

Man... Noble's sig really fits well with this thread xD

Im not really sure if thats what anyone is saying, i do understand the point the other side is making as 20GB day 1 patch is big, but i think they are just getting it mixed up as its not a Day1 patch but instead is "Extra" online content such as maps and extra game modes, something a lot of other companys would of split down from 20GB into 4 - 5GB Paid DLC map packs and spreed it out for the rest of the year. Thats why people need to look at this for what it is.

I agree it's a great deal and it has a reason for being so big. It would be a nice gesture to offer 2nd install discs to unlucky people with slow Internet though, and it wouldn't surprise me if Phil Spencer came through on that end.

Glad I don't plan on buying this game, as I have a ~800kb/s connection. That should take me like 7 hours to download before I can play online, barring slow internet and/or getting disconnected during downloading.

FMD and people will defend this practice.

It's not like they're charging for the content or so, People aren't outraged by psn/xbla games being a full game you download so just think of this as a half way point, half you get in the store and the other half you download when you get it home for no extra cash. Sure it isn't ideal but otherwise the game would be delayed beyond the 10 year anniversary of Halo 2's launch since they couldn't start printing disks until all this 20gb was ready to be added to the disks.

Its al because they wanted 1 disc instead of two.

Personally I think its total BS if you paying full price for a full game.

Also what happens when the gen ends and they shut down the service and your xbox one craps itself? Oh you will be left with 2/3rds of a game. Video gaming consoles are meant to be easy not a chore. Don't want to be making backups in the event it may fail because I can't download the patch again.

It's not like you have to buy the 20gb patch, and you're talking about playing this in 10+ years time being hard because the patch will be missing? If you go to play most games from the start of the Ps360 era now you'll probably run into either the issue of servers taken down or the community has moved on. Same will be true here, by the time this patch is no longer attainable then most will be playing Halo 6 multiplayer or just simply not care about the MCC being missing this patch.

Not to sound mean to you or so I mean you're right that it's a large patch but I think that it's justified to get the game out for the anniversary of Halo2 which is what the pack is mostly based on.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

So

This isn't a fix patch, its extra content. This game is huge and the biggest bargain in gaming history.

Its also optional

What a lot if whining from people over nothing. Many if which have probably bought a full digits game at more Tha 20gb.

Never change VGC forums. Always take that opportunity for that cheap shot based on misinformation.

And even with all the whining, I have yet to see a post saying "I was going to buy this game until hearing this news".

I am pretty sure I made my intentions clear. but if you want it in those words

I was going to buy this game until hearing this news"

Gonna wiat for a Direcotrs CUt or whaterver version they decide to release after this that includes all the content.

We are talking about 4 games in one here. That's roughly 40 hours of campaign and a little over 100 multiplayer maps. Not sure why some people are surprised that they couldn't fit the whole game on 1 blu-ray without compromising quality due to heavy compression.

just like when forza 4 had so much content they made you download the install disk and buy just the play disk right?

no reason they couldnt have just put the data on a second disk and made it install the content to hdd so you only needed first disk in to play.

they just went with one because its cheaper to manufacture,  screw the hundreds of thousands with data caps or slow new.

that wouldnt fit on disk explanation pretty much confirms that not only are you buying an incomplete game,  but you're shit out of luck if you eventually wanted to play it far off in the future when the servers are gone.

nobody should be defending this bs practice,  regardless of console platform,  anything over 1gb on launch day is unacceptable,  but having it be both over 1gb and mandatory is just a clusterfuck.

Does it say that you having to Download the 20GB is mandatory to play the game??. like the single player campaign??

If not and its only for multi player even if the servers go off line if that 20GB update is only for multiplayer its not going to matter?

did you forget about the concept of local multiplayer? I do it all the time with my friends. Be nice to have all the maps to do that with.

We still do it now with Golden Eye. When we get together every few years because you know we all grew up and moved around the country to persue our careers, it is nice being able to relieve some childhood memories and talk about the old days.
