Forums - Nintendo - Eiji Aonuma Wants Mario Kart 8’s Master Cycle in Upcoming Zelda Games

I've seen the idea of a futuristic Zelda game where Link has a motorcycle before, and the idea always rubbed me the wrong way. Looking back on it, I think it was the tone of the art I saw. Like they were trying to make Zelda look like Blade Runner.

Now that I see what a motorcycle would actually look like in a Zelda game, I'm kind of warming up to the idea. They could do some fun stuff with time travel, where in one era Link rides a horse and in the other in the far future he has a motorcycle. You could even set it after Spirit Tracks, where the "future" era is Link's native time and he goes into the past to do stuff, I don't care. Do whatever you want, Aonuma. I'll buy it.

That title is highly misleading.

"Wish I could" doesn't equal "I want".

Eh? But "I also want it to appear in games I work on" does equal "I want."

A dystopian future Zelda would make me harder than a very hard thing. Especially with a female link.

Imagine a game set in a mad max style Hyrule where Ganon has already prevailed and it falls to Link to travel back in time and undo the events that led to the apocalypse. On her bitching motorbike.

Tell me that doesn't give you soggy knickers.

I can do you one better. Later on the Spirit Tracks timeline, Link is sent back in time to the events of the Wind Waker prologue. For 2/3s of the game (s)he travels freely between the two time periods, using a horse for transportation in the past and the mastercycle in the present. At the end of the second act, everything goes all the way bad, Ganon gains access to the 'present' time and brings the future technology back to his own time, transforming Great Flood-era Hyrule into a cyberpunk dystopia. Because these events drastically differ from those which led to Wind Waker and Spirit Tracks taking place, they create a fourth timeline in which Link is now trapped, unable to return to his/her own time. The final act of the game takes place in this era, and yeah, you have both the mastercycle and a horse at your disposal.

My fanfiction will never become reality but I will also accept whatever Aonuma gives me without complaints.

Aonuma is probably just trolling, but I think it could be fun as an easter-egg or something attainable post-game.

Damn it, I thought I'd finally see a rideable horse in Mario Kart.

Aonuma, you troll!

The german source said it differently. This seems to be a bad translation.

I fancy myself to know a bit of German and the free translation of the German sentence is "I wish I could." Would be helpful to have the Japanese script.
