Forums - Microsoft - Rare Working On "Jaw Dropping, Never-Been-Done-Before" Game For Xbox One

I wonder what exactly "dedicated to the next jaw-dropping, never-been-done-before Rare game" means.

A never been done before game BY Rare? (oo maybe an RPG!) Or Rare doing a neverbeendonebefore game? (Kinect Dating?)

Either way, seems like this gen is finally starting to heat up with the new announcements seeming to come weekly!

Seriously Microsoft, you're ruining Rare's potential. Sell them back to Nintendo, there's less of a audience for a Rare game on the Xbox One then Bayonetta 2 on Wii U.

Why doesn't Nintendo just employ all the amazing talent that left Rare? Oh right, because they're over rated.

Anyhow, I look forward to seeing their new project.

Maybe they're too old to work? Or they don't want to work anymore?

Why did Microsoft buy Rare in the first place? Nobody except hardcore Rare gamers would actually buy them on an X1, because the audience is mostly comprised of "mature" gamers.

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

Me!

Hopefully it's better than nuts and bolts.

Viva Pinatas has sold 2m.  Perfect Dark Zero sold 1m and Kameo sold 1m(these numbers come directly from Rare). Kinect Sports has sold 8m to date.  BK1&2 Arcade also has reached 1m

That is 13m total.

With the purchase of Rare they got some noteworthy IPs. A notable one at the moment is Killer Instinct, one of the greatest fighting series ever and the new game is awesome.

MS bought them in hopes of bringing a casual audience to Xbox and it was actually pretty successful. Several of their games have sold a million or millions. VGChartz isn't tracking them properly by the way.

If anything, Rare helps make MS's 1st party lineup more well rounded.

Lolz.

Rare has made what? Maybe 3 successful games since joining up with Microsoft? $375 million well spent. Microsoft bought Rare because they wanted them to make the next Goldeneye or Banjo Kazooie for Xbox. Instead they ran several of their of their most beloved franchises into the ground and created a bunch of new IPs that ended up DOA. Rare did not give Microsoft the success they wanted nor did they give the fans the games they wanted. And if you don't believe me you can hear it straight from the horse's mouth.

Viva Pinata
Kameo
Perfect Dark Zero
Kinect Sports 1
Kinect Sports 2
Banjo-Kazooie HD
Banjo-Tooie HD
Killer Instinct

All these were successful

Conker: Live and Reloaded
Banjo Nuts and Bolts

These did ok

Ghoulies
Kinect Sports Rivals

These two were Failures

The thing about their games are, they havent been front loaded.  They sell well over time

You ignore Rare also has some million sellers on GBA and DS while owned by MS. I could be wrong, but I think MS partly owns the SNES era Donkey Kong Country games. Rare developed the GBA DKC games while owned by MS.

  Donkey Kong Country GBA 2003 Platform Nintendo 1.20 0.48 0.29 0.07 2.04
Donkey Kong Country 2 GBA 2004 Platform Nintendo 0.79 0.27 0.12 0.04 1.23
Donkey Kong Country 3 GBA 2005 Platform Nintendo 0.45 0.17 0.14 0.01 0.77
Diddy Kong Racing DS DS 2007 Racing Nintendo 1.09 0.03 0.00 0.09 1.21

So take that into consideration when talking about the money paid for Rare.

There is still potential in the IPs MS owns from the Rare purchase. For example, Killer Instinct.

Maybe the purchase of Rare wasn't the success MS hoped. But they probaby got the money's worth and they're still taking advantage of Rare and their IPs.
