This FW is only less than two other entries (from what I could find). One of them is MH4 and the other is Freedom 3... 1.6mil (excluding pure digital) is a great number, even for a MH game. Not sure what you are on about...

Not every new game in a franchise needs to become the best selling. Monster Hunter as a franchise is sustaining itself quite well...

Did you not read the other post? And that's an extremely weak defense.

@Tbone; What can I say? You're the one who thought X/Y would hit 20 million. Nevermind, that doesn't count anymore.

And peaking does equate to going downhill. Have you never seen a mountain before?

Let me give you some hypothetical values:

6

5

9

7

6

7

8

Would you say the peak is the third value? Yes
Would you say that the values are trending downwards? No

The fact that an earlier installment sold the most doesn't mean the series is going downhill.

PS: Which other post are you talking about? The one where you say that MH4 had a "bombastic" opening? Despite the fact that its shipment numbers are over four million (as of last december) without even releasing outside of Japan? Not sure what your are trying to say

tbone, I don't know how you can tell Ninpie to not talk sales and then make a post like this.

When a series is no longer growing, then it's going downhill. It may eventually plateau, but Monster Hunter is not growing. It's decreasing in popularity.

As for the comparison of PS4 to PS2. Of course it was always going to be downhill for the a single console after PS2. PS2 is king, and we'll never see that type of dominance in this industry ever again. PS4, while doing very well, isn't the PS2. it's ok to say that.

Downhill is the same when people use the word flop/bomb. Its over exaggerating. People who say PS4 is going Downhill because PS2 160mil seems silly to me.

If a game sells 5mil then bext entries sell 4mil, i guess its going downhill? Omg, i cant :-/

But it isn't. No one is calling any of the 3DS MH games a flop. It's just not as popular as it was. That's all that statement says. No would say the PS4 is going downhill because it's improving from PS3, but that's another discussion.

Just for fun, I plotted the series sales over time using Capcom's data as of June 30, 2014 (newer titles will have sold more over the past few months, but I am ignoring that for now). I also decided to add the best fitting line I could, although with the high variablity between games, it doesn't quite show the most accurate picture. As a note, '09's release was Wii exclusive while all other titles were on handhelds:

Excluding the first two values does decrease the slope, but the slope is still not negative...

Make of it what you will...

What does a reasonable estimate (3.5 million LT) for MH4G do to that?

Also, with all of the re-releases of MHP2G, I'm pretty certain it crossed 4 million retail.

So PS4 isnt going DownHill, But Pokemon XY has coming from Pokemon BW2 or Monster Hunter 4coming off of Monster Hunter Tri (3ds) is?

(yes i kno different story as HW vs SW from lesser in the franchise but still its up right?). "MH4G had a bombastic opening" isnt calling it a flop now? Downplaying i dont like (not aimed at you), and thats where this whole thing started from, srry if i cant shut up about it :)

With all values included, and using a linear best fit line (which has a low R^2) it decreases slope from 0.29 to 0.23. Excluding the first two values, it decreases slope from 0.13 to 0.09.

Increasing the value of MHFU/MHP2G to 4 million (from 3.7million) has virtually no effect on slope.

Good sales for MH4G! Looks like Japanese people do like Remasters once in a while too, right?

Vita might have suffered a bit with the humongous success of N3DS, so I hope it recovers next week.

PS4 doing so-so.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

Dat pie chart.

So much hate for the New 3DS. It's a true upgrade, something the XL was not. It has many advantages over the original 3DS models, but it is not essential going forward. Your old 3DS (and MY old 3DS, which I will not be replacing any time soon) has not lost value, will not be abandoned in favor of the New models, will still play all of the games you've bought for it just fine.

So why the New models then? Well, why replace the DS with the DS Lite? Why replace the GBA with the GBA SP? Why replace the Vita with the Vita Slim? New 3DS has a lot of features that enhance the user experience, but only one announced exclusive, and it's a port of a Wii game. When is the last time a next-gen console or handheld launched without any exclusive software, with only one exclusive slated for release at any time in the future? Old 3DS development isn't being dropped for this thing.

PS4 over Wii U, Nice.
