Usually VGAs are the "big" GOTY awards...

There will be a site or 2 that gives it GOTY... It really depends on their writers view on the game.

Gamespot are often over critical of Nintendo in their news articles (from my understanding, anyway), but review wise they're as frequently inconsistent with Nintendo's titles as they are with everyone else's :p

People have the bad habit of assuming any opinion that doesn't match their own is a biased one.

When they gave DK a 6/10 people were screaming about their supposed "anti-Nintendo" agenda like it was a holy truth, yet no one bats an eyelash when they give B2 a 10/10 or 3D World a 9/10. The same yet reversed effect, due to the alignment of opinions rather than contradiction.

Shadow of the Colossus on IGN (despite facing the fiercest competition from GTA:SA and Resident Evil 4) eventually it wouldn't just win IGN's GOTY award but also gets named "PS2's all-time best game"and the 2nd best game of the decade (2000-2009) on ANY system, only behind Half-Life 2.

I'll add Okami to IGN's list as well, which was GOTY 2006 if I remember right.
