It would be sad because we've already seen that particular or those particular games. It's nothing more than a definitive version of the same game. That's why it would be sad. That would be like Tomb Raider getting GOTY this year.

The first Bayonetta was well received, but the following wasn't great. Which would account for the miniscule numbers it pulled. For as much as people wanted the sequel on other platforms, they didn't prove that with the first game. I happen to love Bayonetta. I just think getting a perfect score for a beat'em up/hack and slash is surprising at best.

What does following have to do with the review scores? It's getting similar scores as the first one.

Also, comparing Tomb Raider to TLoU? Something's wrong here.

Oh, by the time the awards were given. Yeah that's pretty likely. Overall it's kind of a mystery, I mean there's also the retail release with the collection, so it might very well have cracked the million.

The only thing we know is that Journey is the fastest-selling item on Playstation Network.

Because it was the fastest selling, I would have a very hard time believing it hasn't pushed a million. Keep in mind, fastest guaranteed 6 figures FW.

Games this year overall have been getting way lower scores than they usually got in the past. I hope this becomes the new standard for this generation, cause to be honest it was kinda stupid in the past when every game got 90+ and there were like 5 or 6 95+ per year.

Edit: And Bayonetta 2 competing for these scores and GOTY shouldn't be surprising. The first was excellent and it's gotten way more publicity due to drama of its development.

Good for Bayonetta, not exactly my kind of game but I'm sure it's great reception should net it some awards. Tried the demo and it's way too... 'in your face' for me.

And ahh, I see The Last if Us gets it's usual over-the-top praise. Sure it was a good game, but it wasn't GotY to me last year and it certainly wouldn't be this year. Neither would GTAV of course, which I'd even put behind Last of Us in that regard.

I'd say I'd give Child of Light a chance to win some this year. I found it a unique game, and surprisingly entertaining. Otherwise I thought Alien Isolation looked quite good, though I haven't played it due to me not owning a PS4 yet (I won't get these games on my PS3 when I will have a PS4 some time in the future). Shadow of Mordor however looks pretty generic to me, but I could be wrong because I also haven't played that game. Maybe Smash Bros. for WiiU should be a contender as well.

At the end of the day though, I think there will be more than a fair share of reviewers falling for the hype and give the award to Destiny.

Shadow of the Colossus on IGN (despite facing the fiercest competition from GTA:SA and Resident Evil 4) eventually it wouldn't just win IGN's GOTY award but also gets named "PS2's all-time best game"and the 2nd best game of the decade (2000-2009) on ANY system, only behind Half-Life 2.

Not so much a sad gaming year, but more so a sad gaming industry. Rather than looking elsewhere for a GOTY sites would just use the media to judge their GOTYs, and that scares me to no end.

I still have a slight sliver of hope for the gaming industry, but if Last of Us Remastered wins GOTY I will weep for the world.
