Forums - Nintendo - Is there any Wii U game that will matter to the Japanese?

What are you talking about? Wii U is already totally dominating all 8th gen consoles in Japan even without games. I mean look at the huge gap that is growing every week! PS4 will never catch up to that!

*cough* *cough*

Sorry, got a T-bone stuck in my throat from last evening's supper.

This.

Wii U has been outselling PS4 globally in Japan

Also this is without games! No Japanese appealing games for WiiU for next year too - so the trend should continue!

Japan has no real gamers. PERIOD.

I have totally given up on them.

A full-scale console Pokémon RPG maybe. That's basically it, beyond a mainline Final Fantasy which the WiiU won't have.

Xenoblade should help a bit, and maybe Smash as well (although it would have helped much much more if there was no 3DS version).

Thats the point. 3DS is the biggest competitor for Wii U. Plus 3DS has better library which takes away peoples attention from Wii U.

a new Taiko no Tatsujin will be released in November,
and I'm pretty sure there'll be an Animal Crossing game on Wii u

I think they don't need ONE game that appeals to the Japanese market, they need a STREAM of games to make it stick.
Hyrule Warriors is a good example, is a Dynasty Warriors game with a Zelda skin, which is a great first step, but unless they keep getting those kind of games, the Dynasty Warriors crowd will not consider moving to the Wii U, for example the recently announced Dragon Quest: Heroes is not going to be on the system (and Nintendo should money hat that one at least for Japan), and other games present the same problem.
Great Nintendo games will appeal to the Nintendo crowd, but they really need to expand the audience to increase the base and at the same time attract more developers/publishers.

The only game that even remotely matters for Japan anymore on the WII U is SMTxFE and the status for that game is uncertain at this point since Sega just bought Atlus.

Xenoblade Chronicles didn't do so stellar in Japan and the last zelda on the WII bombed in Japan ...

Nintendo stated at E3 that the games development for SMTxFE was on schedule.

OT: I doubt much will.

Top PS3 game last generation in Japan was FF13 with 1.87 mln. Next was RE5 with 1.08 mln. Next is FF13-2 with 0.89 mln.

Top WiiU game currently in Japan is NSMBU with 1.21 mln. Wii Party U is 0.79 mln. MarioKart8 is 0.68 mln there. I'm totally sure that LT sales of MK8, WiiPartyU and Smash WiiU will be higher then 1 million in Japan.

So how can you say that WiiU games are no matter to Japanese if they still sell better than the best selling PS3 games last generation?

I thought the implication was outside of the Nintendo staples, what is there. First party games should continue to do well, but that's a low quantity. The PS3 supported a lot of games and you don't want to do comparisons on 3rd party games of overall games that sold over ~250k
