"Globally in the US", it will!
Worldwide... I doubt it, because of Europe.

Europe? More like because of Earth.

US/UK is close and may actually favor Xbox One in November (or not, but only time will tell us). As far as China, PS4 will not be available there before end of year. And I'm sure other countries are close like US/UK. Even Japan is not going to play a big impact in the global number. The real differentiator is Europe.

When MMC comes out and Microsoft starts their PR campaign for black friday period, chances that US goes back to MS are real. Same goes for the UK and the PS4 will NOT be available in China in november too.

So yah, if Microsoft not win a week in november it is definitely because of "Europe".

Sounds like wishful thinking.  No one game is going to make the US start buying more x1s every week.  You act like sony don't won't advertise,  do bundles... Gta v bundle alone means ps4 wins Nov... People are grossly overlying Mcc effect on sales.

imho xone is slowing becoming a niche machine like WiiU.Basically if you like Xbox games, you already have the machine(or plan to pick it up anyway),thus, the games don't move enough HW even when the software is on fire.

There are more than 80 million 360 users and currently about 17 million people who bought a next-gen system, and this is leaving out PS3 owners who bought a PS4. I see there is quite a big crowd that can still move on to either or both systems, about 145 million people that is.

Following your logic there is 100 millions of people on Wii that should had jump on WiiU when games like Wiisports and mario kart came out. This is not happening because right now PS4 is the default console.

MCC will sell a lot for the ~6million install base but hardware wise,it will not boost sales like its predecessors.Besides,it's holiday season so xone will increase anyway.

Wii owner goes to smartphones or didn`t buy console at all this gen it`s the same for 3ds

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

The fact that the X1 could not beat the PS4 worldwide with Forza Horizon 2 and the Chinese launch (or barely beat the PS4 if you want to consider margin of error) is surprising. I expected the Chinese launch to bring the X1 within 10-20k of the PS4 and FH2 to bring it over. This speaks volumes about how X1's exclusive franchises may be doing in the future. The X1's franchises will definitely sell well because of a very dedicated X1 fanbase, but won't move as much hardware as they used to during the 360's days.

Halo week is possible. Should push X1 sales better them Fifa, North America sales will be huge so maybe.

And why is this surprising again?

I think Halo week is Xbox One's only chance. The problem is:

1.) Halo isn't as big in Europe or the East
2.) It's a remake/port
3.) The new content won't hit 1080p

I think it's Microsoft's best shot, though I wouldn't be surprised if Sony has exclusive marketing rights to GTA and decides to heavily promote it to counter. The following week will be Sony's with the rumored marketing exclusivity of Grand Theft Auto including the bundle, and next-gen exclusive Little Big Planet 3 both releasing the following week. If Microsoft does manage to beat it, I wouldn't be surprised for Sony to make both of the bundles include the title for free to counter Microsoft.

Still it should be a great year for both in sales.

That is not a very smart way to analyse numbers or more specifically "user bases".

Here are some questions to to consider

  • How many of those 80M (either on 360/PS3) were multiplatform gamers (had a PS3 +360)
  • How many of those people bought more than one console because the first one as defective and just tossed the first one away?
The ebst way to guage an active console user base is actually from looking at software sales across very different genres. Eg, at the time of GTAV release there were over 150M PS360s in the wild. Yet the game sold around 30M copies. Thats seeling to 20% of the total install base. Then you look at gams like COD, GT/Forza, FIFA/Madden...etc and the percentage sell through will give you an idea of just how many people actually have a console that they are using actively.
This active user base indicates those that are most likely to make a jump.
Then you also consider things like how right now both platforms require subscriptions to their services for online play. This will make multiplatform ownership between the two even less likely this generation. No point paying for two online services.
This is not all saying there aren't tens of millions of people still waiting to jump in, there definately are, just that its not as black and white as you make it sound.
Also somemore thinsg to consider.
  1. Its not like the PS4 was released a year before the XB1, they were released within a week of eachother depending on regions. But some how in just under a year the PS4 has already managed to double its lead of the XB1. The interesting thing about that ties into the next point,
  2. The people that are buying consoles now are the early adopter and the hardcore gamers. The casuals have not jumped in yet. The people buying now are the loyalists or those that are switching loyalties. And so far that is all playing in favor of the PS4 and this ties into the last point,
  3. The casuals basically buy what everyone else is buying or what they are told by the hardcore is the best thing to buy. Word of mouth is what sells consoles to the casuals more than everything. They walk into theri friends room and see that friend playing on a new console and thats wht they go out to buy. These people are not loyal to any platform. Thats why Playstation could lose over 50% of its market share from PS2 to PS3. The more of points (1) and (2) we have, the more point (3) will happen. This has been the case for every single console in history.

I just wanted to say thank you for this post. I'm always on the brink of making an "Actual user base" thread when I read comments like his.

I'm fine for now :)

I think its only the week of Halo MCC that MS may have a chance. I dont think even sunset overdrive would stand a chance. Heck i cant remember the last time i saw the white console aside from the ads. They better have a MCC US/EU bundle planned. What about during COD:AW launch? That may have an impact too

360 beat PS3 almost every year during the end of year, selling massive more than PS3. I wonder if MS can reactivate this momentum at least for the end of the year in US, too, but currently they have the bad image, the "second best" image and can only compete with price as they somehow fail to bring up hype for their good games. It'll be interesting in US and perhaps UK, the rest of Europe will do as they always did: Buy a Playstation.

This makes no sense..... The 360 outsold Ps3 every week of the year not just holidays..... That's no longer the case.  360 was more popular year round so it got a bigger fall boost... Now the ps4  is the more popular console.  So no that's not going to happen

This week tells us that never the X1 will beat PS4, if it couldnt with Forza Horizon 2 + China launch, it wont with Halo MCC against Far Cry + GTA V + LBP3

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

halo comes out earlier than those tho...

Both gta and far cry come out 1/2 weeks later, so possible buyers could hold the buy until then.
