Forums - Microsoft - Phil Spencer says indie launch parity clause is to ensure Xbox One owners don't feel second best

Honestly I don't care about indie games, didn't care about the hundreds of them on 360 last gen and still don't this gen. Granted a few have caught my eye but that isn't nearly enough for me to actually care about them.

Nearly all the indies on PS4 are crap (IMO). But the latest one, Dust, is a definite winner. I've actually stopped playing TLOU MP because of this game.

PC GAMING: BEST GAMES. WORST CONTROLS

A mouse & keyboard are made for sending email and typing internet badassery. Not for playing video games!!!

He's not the one that should decide though, but XBO owners.

Seriously, Sony needs to make clauses of their own. I dont know why they let themselves be bullied. I think its pretty clear where indies will prefer to have their game on. At that point Microsoft might see the light.

Sony has some clauses, though. The most well-known is the one that makes developer put extra content into a Playstation version of a game if such game has already released on other consoles.

That was a direct response to the big budget games that Microsoft bought exclusivity to at the start of last gen.  It was also pretty effective and I see nothing wrong with it.  PS3 gamers had to wait a year, after all, due to no fault of their own.  Besides that, it was also a cheap way for developers to generate some renewed interest in their title, much the same way as GotY editions.

As for the parity clause, I think it's pretty much a joke at this point.  It's just there to bully small developers but, at the same time, most will probably be able to get around it.

Pretty much agree with this. With that said I still want them to come to the system because some of them have been decent and you never know when someone will release something great.

On top of that I feel indies have the ability to rejuvenate the RPG genre if devs went that direction. I've even though about trying to get into myself and really getting a good story/gameplay going.

But they are second best!

xbox owners are second best?

The hardware's power is second best.

Second best? At least it's not last!

Exactly, this parity clause means they're practically giving their share of the indie market away back to Nintendo.

I think people now and then will settle for 2nd best, but are not much inclined to take up 3rd 4th 5th + best for very long.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

People chose not to have the best experience when they chose the XBO. Why should people that bought a more capable device have to suffer, and even worse, why should people that chose the XBO potentially miss out on something due to this ridiculous policy?

People choose the second class or less experience all the time when it comes to electronics. If they are happy with that, that should be good enough. This policy is the ugly side of competition. Instead of making things better, they are draging everyone down to the same level.

I completely agree with this point but if the game doesn't game to the One at all, surely that's not right. Better to be delayed than not at all?

to be honest most indie games (the overwhelming majority) are better at "not at all".... lol

Lol thats a good point too.

Well XB1 is in 2nd place so it only makes sense that Xbox One is treated as 2nd best.
PS4 has way more marketshare and way more users, it only makes sense to treat PS4 owners as 1st class.

Sorry Phil.

So he decided that the customers don't participate at all in some case :)
