That's mainly for Metro 2033, Last Light Redux still runs on the same engine. That's the game I tried and compared.

Well you did say both 2033 and Last Light in your original post

No, they're not.

Mario is. Smash Bros is. Mario Kart is. Metroid is. Donkey Kong is...

They are, but they're also not pushing for graphics either.

Mario and Metroid pushed for graphics at 60fps on Wii.

I'm starting to wonder what the Hell is the point of this generation of systems? 900p and 30fps? I though a new gen was supposed to mean everything gets better.

So which games out so far then could have been done to the same fidelity and performance on last gen machines?

Systems should be pushing to have the best images possible. They bring out systems that a PC can beat down. It's not like it used to be, where a new system's images blew people away. Then you have companies holding games back... That is sad

Why is it sad that an more expensive PC can produce graphics better than a much cheaper console can?  I'm failing to see the logic here.

Also, when was it "not like it used to be?"

Pretty sure when the xbox 360 came out the PC already had games like Far Cry, Half Life 2 etc which were already quite a ways beyond what the 360 could initially do (if you had the system to run them well) and its no different this time around.  The only difference is there are more PC games now than there were in 2004 etc which PC gaming was still in a growing period.

The games so far this generation could not be done on an older system, without question so it is a step forward.  If your annoyed that a £320 console cannot out perform a PC that costs significantly more, then go and buy a PC and don't worry about it.

My point i they are holding a game down on a system. Period. This game on PS4 should be 1080p with whatever framerate. Rather than focus on making the best looking game, they hold it back. I find it sad. I also find it sad you feel the need to act like an ass toward me. Don't like my post? Then look at something different and don't worry about it.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

It certainly used to be standard for the Atari 2600, NES, Sega Genesis, etc...

Dat 60fps! Such smoothness! Very wow!

In all seriousness, you can't compare a 2D sprite-based game where sprites move around the screen and the screen scrolls at 60fps with a 3D polygon-based game where everything is animated at 60fps.

Why not? Framerate affects responsiveness, whether 2D or 3D.

Mario and Metroid pushed for graphics at 60fps on Wii.

Wii did a pretty good job at getting 60 fps with graphics not much better than Gamecube.

Basically, 60 fps was a goal for those games. Not getting cutting edge visuals out of the Wii.

How do the Zelda games perform on Wii? They didn't look like 60 fps from my memory. I hear Windwaker is not either on Wii U.

Games like Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 and Metroid Prime 3 pushed system's graphics and ran at 60fps.

Zelda is one series that has remained 30fps. It's the exception to the rule.

I'd argue Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime had great art stytles but didn't look technically demanding. Zelda Skyword Sword is a better example of a technically demanding game and probably why it stayed at 30 fps.

The Forza developers (Turn 10) said their goal is 1080p and 60 fps. How far they can push graphics is secondary. I think that's Nintendo's objective in many cases as well. But clearly they aren't opposed to sacrificing 60 fps if they really want to push visuals.

Forza 5 still looks great, but they obviously held back for 1080p/60 fps. But I'm curious why Hyrule Warriors runs at 30 fps. That should be 60 fps even on PS360 specs.

1. Read the AssCreed developer interview.
2. Play Bayonetta2 demo.
3. Sigh and say, the game industry is full of idiots. I knew it.

With Zelda I think it's more that its bigger open worlds (as opposed to the  more contained designed of Mario or Metroid) make 30fps the easier route.  I expect this to continue on Zelda Wii U given what we've seen of it so far.

Prime 3 pushes a lot of geometry, bloom, and particles for a Wii title, and Mario Galaxy had shaders and particles all over the place. For the hardware, they were pretty demanding at 60fps. Skyward Sword was larger in scale, but had far fewer and simpler effects.
