I think Sony will announce 15m PS4s sold at the December event, and they stress (AGAIN) that it means sold to gamers.

yes, I can see that happen.

what's the exact date?

after this September, 15m is a 100% given for ps4 end of 2014

it will slow down in October, but November will still be a decent bump and even bigger than September.

December will be huge again.

Thats pretty much a given. As it stands for tracking ending in september, VGC has the PS4 at 11.4M. NPD data shows that they have undertracked the PS4 by around 120k. After adjustments VGC should have the PS4 at 11.6 - 11.8M. We also know that even after adjustments from sonys 10M sold announcement VGC still has the PS4 undertracked globally by around 250k-300k. And judging by all this undertracking, we could very easily say that the Ps4 is being undertracked globally by VGC right now by around 500k- 750k.

If we add that that to the 11.4M right now we will have ~11.9 - 12.2M. So basically to hit 15M the PS4 needs to do at least 3M globally in october and november combined.

Its possible.

That's because you're stuck in this us vs them mentality that came about from last year. Its simple, don't hate congratulate. Console Preferences shouldn't go beyond what console you prefer to play on.

I strongly disagree. This isn't about having fun seeing fanboys rip each others heads of. It's just that congratulatory wanking is the most boring and contentless post anyone could make. Just short of just writing *spam*.

Congratulating something or agreeing with something doesn't further discussion at all. It's just meaningless smalltalk. Forum filler if you will.

I think that people who only post the positive stuff of whatever they believe in while dismissing anything negative or spouting empty lies in form of congratulations are far worse than the other sort of fanboys who are hating on every competitor. Because not only are they boring as hell, but they consider themselves superior despite having the same giant biases than every other fanboy. Haters are at least honest(not in their talking but in their actions).

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Don't make this into a debate about the character of users, guys. I'd hate to have to start smacking folks around in here.

If Microsoft don't close the gap by end of year, they will have to wait until the next holiday to see whether they can catch up or not and by that moment, the gap will be wider.

Next holiday the gap will be 2.5 - 3 million USA only(probably 15 million gap WW).I don't think Catching up will be a option

yeah, it will get very difficult for microsoft to get closer if sales keeps going like this.

Microsoft will need some of these if the gap continues to get bigger...

Lol it has given me a great laugh.

A difference in opinion.

Hating for the sake of hating is just as much wanking and contentless as you would suggest praising is.

Granted, I agree but I also don't think there is any distinction between the various aspects of fanboyism. Either is all wanking or none of it is imo.

IMO Patcher intentionally makes wrong predictions. And thus Patcher always strikes back. This guy knows how to make himself relevant. People at forum makes fun of him. And he uses that "fame" to earn money.

PS4 HW sales up almost triple in September and more than double my estimate. Fortunately, my report contained over 40 estimates, many closer

Source:

I am paid well because I am pretty accurate predicting earnings. I make a lot of mistakes that cancel one another out

Source:

I get paid to forecast earnings, not unit sales. It is one metric I use to estimate revenue, and if sum of my errors approximates zero, fine

Source:

I'm not sure if getting fame by making bad predictions is a sure fire way to make money as an analyst.

Also, considering the PS4 was more than double his prediction, saying "Fortunately, my report contained over 40 estimates, many closer" doesn't really bolster confidence in him.  For one, because being closer could still be off by a huge margin, and also because only "many" were closer.  That would suggest at least a few were even more off than the PS4 estimate.

I'd also disagree with him that a bunch of errors cancelling each other out is fine.  The performance of seperate products can mean very different things for the future of a company.  For a hypothetical, let's say a company has two products.  One is an old stalwart that is no longer growing significantly, and the other is a new product the company hopes will be a significant part of their revenue in the future.  Last fiscal year the old product had 100 in revenue, the new product had 5.  Pachter predicts revenue will be flat based on a small decrease to 95 for the old product and a doubling to 10 for the new.  In actuality, the old product was up slightly to 101 and the new product was down to 4.  You still get the same sum, but you end up with a very different situation for their forward earnings.

EDIT: Nor are they entirely divorced either, there is no group of haters and congratulaters, they're all the same.

But it looks like if you are not in the "PS4 is the best, 200mi total sales, PS2 era, return of the king" you are a delusional XOne fanboy, destined to die alone in that barren wasteland...

Stop trying to play the victim.. I strongly doubt thats why anyone would think of you as a delusional fanboy. You also don't have to exagerate. And if you find yourself doing just that to make your point then you know you have a problem.

  1. I doubt any sane thinking person expects the PS4 to sell up to 200M. If we had a poll right now and 1000 people voted, I would not expect as much as 2 people on here to seriously vote that the PS4 will sell 200M. If you ignore the 998 poeple that say it will sell between 100M to 140M in its lifetime and focus on the 2 that says 200M, then the joke is really on you.

  2. The WiiU came out almost 24 months ago The XB1 and PS4 came out within a week of eachother. Now it doesn't matter why or how the Ps4 did it, whats imporatnt is that in the time since their launch the PS4 has managed to outsell the wiiU and is fast appraoching outselling it 2:1. It as already outsold the XB1 2:1 and the lead is still growing. I don't know about you, but how else would you say a console is dominating its competition? If we are dealing with facts, then there is no reason why the Ps4 should suddenly stop selling and at its current rate you do realize that when the PS4 is at 80M you would be lucky if the XB1 is at 35M?

Its not like the PS3 that will somehow comeback. The PS3, even with all its bad press, still won the 360 every single year in two of the 3 major regions. There is no silver lining here and now, and these are just facts. There is no single major territory that the XB1 is dominating or winning consistently if winning at all to make any kinda difference on the global PS4 sales. You won't be delusional if you said that the PS4 will not reach 100M. But you would be delusional if you somehow just ignored all the facts in front of you all the market trends, all that MS has already done and how they had no effect on the PS4 and just somehow go around saying the XB1 will come back and win or something like that.

  3. Lastly, being a lover of one platform shouldn't mean you can't at least give credit where credit is due. Go on... just try it. Say "good job to sony and the PS4, they did everything right this gen and so far deserve it". It may actually make you feel better.
edit: A small addition on sales. In one year the PS4 has so far managed to get a 5M lead over the XB1 right? Nw if we low balled it we could at least safely say that by this time next yeart the PS4 will have increaded that lead to 10M. It should e more than that but lets keep this simple. Do you somehow expect that Halo 5 will make 10 million people buy the XB1 while at the same time sony does not sell a single new console? Cause the ONLY thing MS has got going for it now is Halo 5 next year. And that is the kinda stunt that game would have to do to make any kinda difference in the grand scheme of things.
