Many people dislike everything and anything that's successful.

I don't know what an absurly high score is to you. I can just tell you relatively few got scores in the 90s.

http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/all/ps3?sort=desc

You sure about that?

That's like 50 games out of ~1400 games that got in the 90s.

Also, a lot of those games were awesome or cutting edge at the time. But gamers are more jaded now.

Reviewers found the game mediocre. FH2 has nothing to do with that. Though I'm annoyed with some reviewers knocking off points from Driveclub simply because it's not open world.

Bingo!

I'm implying DC's score could have been impacted by FH2. I think a lot people, perhaps many critics included, prefer the gameplay and open world of Forza Horizon.

So making that transition from FH2 to DC didn't benefit the score of DC.

Bugger all were cutting edge. Cutting edge was GTA 3, Morrowind, Far Cry, or Halo. Almost all of the games on that list for the 7th gen did little to nothing new, even graphically they were poor in relation to the current technology.

No, I said "a lot" not "all." And don't use that English slang on me, good sir!

The games that got 90s raised the bar on every title you mentioned. But I'm not really looking to have this debate.

Like I said, relatively few games got in the 90s and that list proves it.

Forza >>>>>>> Drive Club

I think that Forza is much better... just my opinion.

They're different games though. Forza is open world car game with races, Drive club a pure track racing game.
It's like saying GTA5 >>>>>> Halo 4   Both have guns, chapters/missions and online multiplayer. Very different games.

Would it not be kinda strange if Quantum break, Halo 5, The Order, Bloodborne etc get criticized for not being open world like Watch dogs?

I have one genuine complaint against DC, in the sound department. Although surround sound is used very well for the race effects, the music is either forgettable or annoying. No wonder race music is turned off by default. Worse though is the complete lack of bass. My subwoofer is set to eco mode and it literally shut off after racing for a while finding nothing to do. I don't expect the chest pounding oomph from the NFS series, but every engine has bass tones, so do tires bumping over the track.

Its a fun game but lacks content and its barebone, it deserve the score it got. Still a fun game and its different than other racing games being a bit arcady.

Their differences between DC and FH2 are not as disparate as Halo 4 and GTA V.

Halo 4- is an FPS, mission focused, dark toned, and mp rich game. How can you compare that to GTA series?

DC and FH2 are both racing games. Competitive racing.

One tries to reach realism through the environment realism, photorealistic graphics, and the other tries to achieve realism through individual car handling.

They are different genres.

On one side you have TDU / TDU 2, Midnight club LA, Burnout paradise, Driver SF, Fuel, NFS MW / HP / Rivals, FH
On the other side you have GRID / GRID 2, Ferrari challenge, TD Ferrari racing legends, NFS Shift / Shift 2

Different game styles, different focus.  Same way I would classify GTA5, Saints row, Infamous, Watch dogs, Borderlands together, vs Halo, Resistance, KZ, Gears, CoD, etc.

The point was you can't compare Halo 4 to GTA5, as well as comparing open world racers to track based racers is pointless. You can argue FH2 is best in class (although I really like messing with the cops in open world racers which FH lacks). I would argue DC stacks up pretty well against its class.

Ofcourse there are more genres in racing just as with fps/tps/rpg hybrids/survival horror.
Realistic sims Forza / GT / F1
Rally Motorstorm, Sega rally Revo, Pure, WRC.
Pure arcade MK, Ridge racer, Blur, Split/Second, Wipeout HD
Complaining about DC not being open world or requiring you to stay on the track is just as silly as complaining there are no power ups. It's like saying DC has 5 locations to race in, FH2 only 1. Or FH2 has tons of side missions, DC just a bunch of race related stuff. Apples and oranges.

Where were all these people saying you shouldn't compare FH2 and #DC before release when we were getting all the threads comparing the graphics and weather effects? Seems the idea that you can't compare the two racing games only came about after it was apparent #DC was getting killed by critics.
