Driveclub probably would have scored better if it released before Forza Horizon 2.

That's like 50 games out of ~1400 games that got in the 90s.

Also, a lot of those games were awesome or cutting edge at the time. But gamers are more jaded now.

Bugger all were cutting edge. Cutting edge was GTA 3, Morrowind, Far Cry, or Halo. Almost all of the games on that list for the 7th gen did little to nothing new, even graphically they were poor in relation to the current technology.
