He was banned for insulting someone. How he did it doesn't really matter and the mod dishing out the ban's wording doesn't really matter either. :D

This is what I was going for, yes.

The ban is absolutely fine but the ban reasoning implicates sloppy work on the moderator's side. Slippery slope I say. Next time it might be an unjustified ban.

I am not entirely convinced that your original post isn't an attempt to mess with me...if it was it was actually somewhat amusing.

However, I will assume you were serious and respond in kind.

As there is no issue with the fact the moderation occured I will speak more to the context.

I guess we cannot know until Dane rejoins us what his intent was...and hopefully when he does he'll be honest one way or another. On a cursory glance I believe the interpretation that is listed is as likely as any of the alternatives you listed.

I guess, given the need for moderation is so straight-forward, I'd question how much detail is necessary. In this instance, another moderator brought it to my attention. He was on his phone and asked that I handle the moderation. I was at work, there was only so much time I could devote to it. Previously the discussion that's occured is, should we moderate if time-poor? Doing so can feasibly give way to mistakes.

The ultimate compromise last time this debate arose seemed to be that you go ahead with simple moderations (like this one), and wait on more complex issues.

As an example, if I or another mod had taken issue with the sexist connotations behind the word pussy (I didn't, just demonstrating my point), that is not something you'd want to moderate quickly, and without substantial input from other mods. Our views on that issue are not what I would call cohesive, and some mods might be inclined to let it go, where others would hand out a hefty ban.

Having said all of this, I welcome discussion if you feel it needs re-addressing, this wasn't intended to put you off, and I recognise its inherently subjective, if you have other thoughts.
