Forums - Gaming - If you were to create a Wii U successor, what would it be?

Let's assume that: (1) You have magically replaced Iwata-san because of unidentified fantastic reasons (2) You have to work within the constraints of reality. (No console more than 209 times as powerful as XBOne/PS4, is $69, will have 300 launch titles, etc.)

Give it a name, features, hardware specs, release date, launch titles, as much as you want to put out!

Example:

Nintendo 4U (Bane will guide you to becoming a big guy)

Think of the Wii U, except adhering more to the New 3DS design language. As stated by the name, it is capable of supporting four GamePads at once. It should be slightly more powerful and have more RAM than the PS4 to achieve this purpose handily whilst maintaining 60fps on the main screen.

In addition, it should come with an improved Wiimote (think SNES controller, except turned into a Wiimote), and its Deluxe bundle should come with a Pro controller akin to the GameCube controller or the Wii U Pro Controller, but with longer battery life.

Now, I like the conecpt of StreetPass, so I'd extend it and make Miiverse games. I'll leave you with the rest.

Oh, and did I mention that you could bring the GamePad 2 anywhere? Of course, only light digital games that are onboard can be played without the  4U, but that's a start, right?

The console should launch with a sequel to Splatoon, and a nice cheap sequel to Nintendo Land. Throw in a Pikmin and a Starfox (remake) and we're all set. Bring the ensemble cast of third-party games, too, to plug some holes.

Price: $299

GamePad 2 standalone: $99

Launch: Holiday 2017.

What about a dream Wii U successor, for you?

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Wii U2

Well, let's see.

The name will include Nintendo (the Wii brand is dead, but not the Nintendo one), and the number of which console it is, so 1-NES; 2-SNES; 3-N64; 4-GameCube; 5-Wii; 6-WiiU. It will be Nintendo 7/Seven.

The controller will be an improved GamePad with a capacitive 720p screen and longer range and battery-life, it will be able to work with 2 of them at the same. In games that support it, up to 6 players will be able to play with the other 4 using another controller, something that won't be a problem because besides a new Pro model it will be compatible with all Wii and WiiU controllers (wiimote, GamePad, Pro controller, Wii Fit, etc). Both the new GamePad and Pro controllers will be available for $99/$49 respectively.

The console will also support Nintendo's next handheld as a controller, using it as a regular Gamepad.

Storage and discs. It will feature the same optical drive as WiiU, but instead of flash memory for its storage Nintendo will realise that digital distribution is here so they will go with a 500GB HDD (because it's almost impossible to find smaller ones). External HDDs will be supported via USB 3.0 (sadly, not the newer one).

Hardware wise, it will include the WiiU chip (CPU+GPU) for backwards compatibility, using an AMD APU as the main processor of the next console. Power wise it won't be much more powerful than a PS4/X1. With luck it will use 8GB of RAM, with 6-7 for games.

The console will feature a new OS designed to run on both the home console and the handheld. That will allow that Virtual Console games, as well as the eShop games developed to run under that OS, to work on either the handheld or the console. With a true unified account, it will allow users to buy a game for either the home console or the handheld, or buy a cross platform SKU for a bit more.

Launch games will include 2 main titles to attract the 2 different Nintendo audiences: a new Metroid to attract the hardcore Nintendo fans as well as to show what the console is capable of in terms of graphics, and a new Animal Crossing for the more mainstream users that will also serve to show other integrations between the home console and the handheld.

The console will launch Holiday 2017 at $299 with only 1 sku and making a profit from the start.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Nintendo Ultra (Codename U)

Specs-wise, it'll be on par with PS5/XB(4?) while consuming less energy. New controller will be traditional with amazing battery life and features. It'll be compatible with Wii U Gamepad, Wii U Pro Controller, Wiimote, ect.

Improvements to the current OS, Miiverse, and eShop, as well as a revamped Virtual Console (Library will include select NES, SNES, GB, GBA, N64, and GC games). Nintendo Network will be restructured greatly.

The Nintendo Ultra will launch in two variants, Black 250 GB HDD with Nintendo Land 2 bundled and a White 500GB HDD, both retailing for $350.

The system will launch with an array of games, including Nintendo Land 2, Super Mario Ultra (Sequel to SM64), Pikmin 4, Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime Ultra, F-Zero, Kid Icarus 3, Donkey Kong Ultra (DK 64 sequel), and Splatoon 2. Decent top tier 3rd party support as well as countless indy games.

Not bad if I do say so myself!

More powerful than PS4, and I mean MORE POWERFUL, not just slightly powerful. With better Gamepad and a real account system. That's it.

Well, I would have like an x86 cpu with an nvidia 970 gpu (should be a lot cheaper by then) and I would get rid of the gamepad and just mostly focus on hardware! Make the controller feel real comfortable and have digital triggers! Essentially, the gamecube 2 without the minidiscs and a developer friendly platform since its x86 and I would price it around $350 at launch (provided its close a ps5 in terms of power) and launch with a Zelda game

I would also make the account not locked to the console and have cloud saves and not make it region locked! Oh and make the online still being free

I would launch it in 2018 and call it NES Advanced or something

Oh and Pay rockstar to port GTA 7/8 to it

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

No offense by why is everyone making their next gen console only slightly more powerful than ps4?

Life Time Sales Prediction

PS4- 80 million

Xbox One- 40-60 million

Wii U- 25-40 Million

Around as powerful as the PS5 and Xbox 2, along with similar architecture so 3rd parties have no excuse for ignoring it.
