Fallout: New Vegas. It was literally built on the already dated foundation of Fallout 3 but it was an absolutely stellar game.

I was gonna say NV too.  I was initially disappointed with it but I ended up spending just as many hours in the game as I did Fallout 3, and eventually got all the expansion packs as well.

Also, Eath Defense Force is the king of this thread.  Looks like D-grade shovelware but is oh-so fun to play, especially with a few buddies over.

Also Xenoblade Chronicles, though Wii runs on 6th gen tech. Regardless, those faces... And they're not any better in Xenoblade Chronicles X for Wii U. :/ Still a must-pre-order.

Back to Nier... It's absolutely amazing, especially when you do the New Game+. Easily one of my favourite games.

Resistance fall of man. The only thing next gen about the visuals was the shiny HD look it had. It was very fun to play though.

GTA 4 is very bad looking. Playing GTA 5 makes it seem like a gen apart. But again it was fun to play.

All the PS1 classics like MGS1 etc but that's kinda cheating.
